Integrity Educational Services is currently seeking a Cultural Liaison who is fluent in Kinyarwanda and who has a passion for working with at-risk youth and their families. Cultural Liaisons serve as an on-call part-time employee at a rate of $25.00 hour.
Integrity Educational Services (IES) is a non-profit management company. Our staff are set up for success in our schools by collaboratively working with a strong community of teachers, social workers, principals and office staff at multiple schools within the district. Ideal candidates will align with our mission, vision and Whole Child approach to education and are committed to being present every day to assist our students in their academic success. All of our students are at-risk and the majority fit into one of the following categories; English Language Learners, IEP, Court Placed, Long-Term Suspended or Expelled. Both Hope Academy of West Michigan and Lighthouse Academy hold instruction through the summer on a Balanced Calendar.
The Anchor program inside of the South Community Building welcomes refugees from all over the globe. We have students from Middle Asia, Central America and Africa. The students are as diverse as the languages they speak. Approximately one-third of our students speak one of the various Spanish dialects. The other two-thirds of our students speak a wide variety of languages such as Tigrinya, Arabic, French, Farsi, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, and other African languages. We work closely with the various agencies who support these students and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop relationships and work cooperatively with all staff on a team basis
- Provide assistance to new families and students as they enroll in school.
- Collaborate with community resources to provide appropriate services to students and families.
- Act as an advocate for students and families to provide equal learning opportunities; help students to be successful in the learning environment.
- Conduct home visits when appropriate, to better assess and understand the needs of the family.
- Translate and communicate school documents.
- Interpret during meetings and testing.
- Measures effectiveness through data.
- Facilitate communication between students, parents and school staff to ensure student achievement.
- Serve as a bridge between the schools and families; advocate for educational equity for all students and families.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The minimum qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of the job such as education, experience, competencies, knowledge and skills are listed below.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization. MUST speak Kinyarwanda.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters in a school environment. The employee may use standard office/classroom equipment such as computers, tablets, smartboards, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
