Purpose:
To obtain, through Computerized Tomography, cross sectional images of internal organs and tissue of diagnostic value for interpretation by Radiologist. Also, provide technical services within the radiology department.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas, as well as maintain quality
assurance of radiographic examinations - Care for as well as operate necessary equipment
- Demonstrate proper usage of radiographic equipment within state and federal guidelines
- Run and record Phantom QA scans in PACS
- Process images and archive them through PACS and verify that all is operational
- Ensure proper safety standards are met using OSHA guidelines
- Consistently demonstrate knowledge of correct emergency shutdown procedures
- Consistently demonstrate knowledge of proper fire and safety evacuations
- Verify all ancillary equipment (monitoring devices, injectors, surveillance equipment) is operational
- Ensure procedure room is clean and up to Infection Control standards
- Inspect rooms for potential environment of care hazards (O2 tanks/outlets, lighting) and ensure any
discrepancies are reported to supervisor in a timely manner - Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment
in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures - Review orders and ensure appropriate CT/X-rays are taken
- Communicate via fax and telephone with outside reads coordinators
- Position patients for CT/X-ray scans/exams using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary
- Assist physicians with imaging procedures, starting IV’s and injecting contrast, if necessary
- Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and
appropriately label - Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure times and distance according to
specification of examination using ALARA guidelines - Order all necessary supplies in PROCUREIT
- Dispense oral contrast to patients for CT scans as needed
- Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration
- Be able to identify emergency situations and know what appropriate response is.
- This includes knowledge of medications kept in CT and how to draw them up for the physician as well
as knowledge of the on call provider schedule
Other Duties:
- Provide orientation and training to new CT technologists
- Provide education and training to student technologists
- Perform all related work duties as appointed
- Assist physicians in developing new protocols and CT imaging techniques that are unique to this facility
- Participate in research initiatives as applicable
- Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all different types of
patients and staff - Provide clear, complete instructions to all patients, answering questions as accurately as is possible
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Associate’s degree in applied science
- ARRT registration and up to date CT Certification
