This listing is for a PRN Critical Care Technician in Pre-op and PACU.
1. As part of the care team, meets with RN to receive report and patient priorities for the shift. Collaborates with and follows directions/tasks as delegated by the Registered Nurse. Prioritizes and completes patient care assignments within scheduled hours of work to meet patient and family needs. Participates in change of shift bedside reporting.
2. Accurately takes, records, and reports vital signs, pain rating, height, weight, pulse oximetry and I&O (including drains). Assists in the collection of pertinent data to be utilized by the RN in the assessment of the patient’s physical and mental changes including age specific and cultural needs. Promptly reports changes in the patient condition to the RN.
3. Consistently demonstrates psychomotor and critical thinking skills necessary to perform and document specific patient tasks as delegated by the RN, per protocol. These include but are not limited to: * Specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum) * Bedside glucose monitoring * Application of Telemetry * EKG – adult * Enemas * Post mortem care * Discontinues urinary catheters * Inserts peripheral IV’s * Inserts, discontinues peripheral IV’s, and draws blood samples on insertion * Bladder scan with print-out
4. Provides personal care that may include CHG bathing, oral hygiene, peri care, toileting (including ostomies), active or passive ROM, turning and positioning, AM & PM care, and feeding of selected patients as assigned.
5. Anticipates and prepares for new admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN per protocol. Ensures all patient care equipment in patient room is clean.
6. Performs required unit secretary tasks as needed, including but not limited to answering telephones and call lights, order entry, ordering of stock, maintenance requests form replenishment and breaking down completed charts. Promptly communicates urgent/STAT information, orders/results to the appropriate nurse.
7. Safely transports, transfers and ambulates patients using appropriate body mechanics and equipment.
8. Performs care rounds purposefully addressing patient needs.
9. Responds to patient needs and calls in a timely manner regardless of individual patient assignment. Adheres to Fall Prevention Program.
10. Reports problems and resolutions of problems regarding patients, team members, visitors, etc. to nurse. Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
11. Minimize hospital acquired infections by compliance with isolation procedures, restocking of isolation supplies, performing appropriate hand hygiene, maintaining cleanliness of clinical equipment as required by Prevention Infection guidelines and policies.
12. Tags and reports equipment and environmental repair needs to the Charge RN, NM, and submits work order via Intranet. Assures the Environment of Care is maintained according to regulatory guidelines.
13. Provides direct observation and care to patients needing 1:1 observation for suicide, psychological needs, other diagnosis(s), or safety needs. Assists with management of aggressive behavior.
14. Updates patient communication boards as directed.
15. Enhances patient and family experience by: courteous and compassionate interactions with patient and families; compliance with professional dress code per policy; places patient’s personal items within safe and convenient reach of patient. Maintains cleanliness and quietness of the patient room and unit environment. Provides a healing and quiet environment for the patient.
16. Promptly responds to all patient needs and calls in a timely manner to ensure patient safety and maximize the patient experience. Respects patient privacy by always knocking before entering room and providing dignity and respect when assisting patient with ADL’s
17. Acts as preceptor for new technician orientees, under the direction of RN, NM and Educator.
18. Attends all mandatory education and successfully completes department specific annual competencies, as defined by the ERDD.
19. Serves on committees, task forces, process action teams, public relations activities and /or work groups on a voluntary and appointment basis at the division and/or hospital level.
20. Demonstrates interpersonal skills and competencies for the neonate, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent. Certified by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant required. Current BLS required.
