Join Our Team as a Mobile Crisis Intervention Specialist!
Are you passionate about making a positive impact on individuals in crisis? Do you thrive in high-pressure situations and have a deep understanding of mental health and emotional well-being? We're seeking a dynamic Mobile Crisis Intervention Specialist to join our dedicated team and provide crucial support to those in need.
About Us: Be Well OC is a leading organization that provides crisis response and compassionate care to individuals facing mental health, emotional, or psychological crises. Our transformative initiative brings together public, private, academic, and faith-based organizations to create a coordinated system of mental health care and support for all Orange County residents. Our mission is to make compassionate mental health care accessible to our community, making Orange County the happiest and healthiest community in the United States with a world-class mental health care system.
What You'll Do: Be a part of the movement to bring mobile mental health and Crisis Intervention services directly to the community. With several contract cities in Orange County, the mobile response teams provide intervention, referrals, transportation, and support to those needing mental health, substance abuse, housing, and addiction treatment services. The mobile crisis response program helps improve outcomes for those in need while also supporting law enforcement and EMS so they can focus on calls where they are needed most urgently.
Crisis Response:
Work as a team with another Crisis Intervention Specialist responding to calls for service dispatched through a partner police or fire department, providing immediate assistance to individuals in crisis situations. Whether it's a mental health crisis, emotional distress, or any urgent need, you will be the calming presence that helps navigate the storm.
Make transport decisions regarding patient care and be able to drive a large passenger van.
Proactively contact those in need in your assigned city in various locations, such as community parks, shopping centers, and street corners.
Assessment:
Observation and assessment skills will be crucial in understanding the unique needs of each individual. Your ability to evaluate the situation and formulate an appropriate intervention plan will be the key to saving lives.
Assume primary responsibility for making mental health assessments of clients and providing crisis counseling.
Maintain confidentiality and respect the boundaries of clients experiencing emotional distress.
De-escalation:
Your exceptional communication skills will shine as you work to de-escalate tense situations. Your empathy and understanding will help individuals feel heard, valued, and supported.
Apply de-escalation techniques and crisis communication/management.
Collaboration:
Work closely with emergency services, medical professionals, and community resources to ensure a holistic approach to Crisis Intervention. Your ability to collaborate effectively will make a real difference in the lives of those you assist.
Serve as a clinical consultant to police and EMS/fire partners.
Make referrals as needed to community providers.
Work closely with the case manager to provide long-term support to clients.
Resourceful Problem Solving:
Each crisis is different, and your creativity and resourcefulness will be vital in finding solutions tailored to the unique challenges individuals are facing.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • One year of experience in Crisis Intervention or delivery of mental health services in non-traditional settings.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including the impoverished, unhoused, and those suffering from chronic mental health challenges.

  • Strong sense of compassion and ability to maintain a calm demeanor amid high-intensity situations.
  • Ability to operate a cell phone, police radio, and laptop computer.
  • Must pass a stringent criminal background check and driving record review, both conducted by the citys police department.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license with clean driving record with reliable transportation.
  • Microsoft Office skills and the ability to learn proficiency in organization-specific programs and software.
  • Climb stairs and move in any terrain.
  • Lift and drag at least 50 kg.
  • Squat, stand, or kneel for prolonged periods of time.
