Credit Analyst, Fintech

Novel Capital (www.novelcapital.com) is a fintech startup providing innovative revenue-based capital products to transform how companies fund their growth. Our innovative platform provides financing to tech and subscription companies that in many cases don’t fit the traditional banking or venture-capital equity models.

We're looking for a Credit Analyst to join our credit team. You will be responsible for underwriting the creditworthiness of our potential B2B borrowers, using a mix of financial analysis and data analytics.

Role and Responsibilities

• Assess the credit risk of companies by analyzing their qualitative and quantitative financial information, developing credit approval memos, and presenting insights and recommendations for Loan Committee.
• Complete financial models to determine investment amounts and terms for companies approved for funding.
• Meet with CEOs of the companies that are seeking funding, and manage the full lifecycle of a deal including the funding evaluation process and due diligence.
• Identify alternative ways to assess risk that accelerates and improves our underwriting decisions.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual underwriting processes, and test out new hypotheses to streamline processes.
• Assist in optimizing and developing innovative financial products based on customer insights that are driven by data.
• Work on special projects as they arise.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (i.e., Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics/Physics, Computer Science, Business) or MBA.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial underwriting with a Commercial Bank credit/underwriting team, Fintech risk/credit team, Big 4 accounting firm, or investment/credit risk team of an asset manager/credit fund/hedge fund.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Adept at assessing company financial risks, including downside and sensitivity analysis.
• You know financial statements inside out.
• Mastery of Excel.
• Passionate about early-stage investing, startups, and our mission to serve early-stage technology entrepreneurs is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
• This is an on-site position in our Kansas City office.

Extra Credit

• Experience analyzing and/or underwriting software companies (i.e., software financial metrics, business model).
• CFA or CPA certified.
• Personal connection or experience with entrepreneurship.
