Credit Analyst III
Job Description
Summary
The Credit Analyst III position is a more highly developed level Credit Analyst who is responsible for detailed research and greater comprehension of complex, commercial-level analysis. It is expected that the associate will work with and assist Commercial Loan Officers with more autonomy than junior-level associates (CAI and CAII).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handle complex and/or challenging assignments (e.g. large deals or complex requests with a larger relationship exposure) with little oversight by their direct manager
- Investigates all available sources of credit and financial information
- Prepares summaries, presents facts, and offers opinions concerning credit-worthiness
- Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group
- Work in a consultative manner and, as applicable, attending customer calls with the Relationship Manager to aid in the thoroughness of pertinent underwriting
- Prepare and spread business financial statements and cash flows, in addition to personal financial statements and cash flow for personal guarantors. Verify covenant compliance
- Prepare loan approvals, annual reviews and credit analysis for new requests, in addition to modifications and short term extension of existing loans
- Conduct analysis on accounts receivable and accounts payable aging reports, work in progress reports, and borrowing base certificates
- Ability to accompany Commercial Loan Officers on customer and prospect calls, as relevant to Credit assignments
- Participate in discussions with management regarding creditworthiness of proposed loan requests
- Conduct third party research, inclusive of industry reports, personal credit reports, real estate analysis with market assessments, etc
- Prepares reports and handles special assignments as warranted
- Act as peer mentor and trainer for junior-level Credit Analysts
Qualifications:
- Requires a strong comprehensive knowledge of C&I and/or CRE, including, but not limited to, credit & risk analysis, credit rules, regulations, cash flow analysis, project economics and valuation, guarantor analysis, market analysis, as well as the ability to exercise independent judgment within the framework of established Credit Policy and Underwriting Guidelines
- Thorough knowledge of underwriting, credit analysis and commercial loan structure
- Strong analytical skills with ability to identify strengths and mitigate risks
- Proficient in CRE and/or C&I lending including debt service coverage, cash flow, construction budget, sources and uses, and identification of strengths/weaknesses and mitigating factors
- Moderate to advanced understanding of accounting, statistics, and economics
- Strong understanding of commercial credit products, market trends, and loan procedures
- Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills including advanced business writing capabilities
- Ability to lead and work cohesively in a team
- Highly detail-oriented
- Strong skills in quantitative analysis
- Advanced ability to manage time and multitask effectively
- Advanced skill planning and managing projects
- Ability to conduct research on financial topics and present accessible reports to colleagues with differing backgrounds
- Independent ability making high-stakes decisions and negotiating effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain client and business relationships, as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Advanced acumen for business
- Discretion and dedication to protecting sensitive information
Education and/or Experience:
- 4 -6 years prior credit analysis or equivalent experience/capabilities. Previous experience as a Credit Analyst or loan office
- Bachelor's Degree. Business, finance, accounting major preferred, other majors with a business minor also acceptable
Technology:
- Strong computer skills, inclusive of experience with loan origination software and MS Office applications (specifically MS Word and Excel)
- Advanced understanding of various business intelligence/database tools and applications
- Advanced experience using spreadsheet software
