Job description

At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!

Are you a deeply knowledgeable, process-focused, Product Development Manager who loves Magic: The Gathering ? Would you be thrilled to be a part of the growth of the brand into new channels, expressions, and audiences?

We are seeking a sharp and confident Creative Licensing Managerto shepherd art assets, information, and partner feedback through our creative development pipeline. From a project’s inception to approval, you will play a crucial role in the success of our publishing, promotions and consumer products efforts. As a member of the Emerging Business team, you will work closely with external licensees, internal partners, and your fellow creatives and business strategists to curate and distribute visual references, provide thoughtful feedback, and improve resource organization on an ongoing basis.

What You'll Do

This role ensures that each project is set up for success from the very start, working with partners to define targets and equipping them with critical assets and direction. The bulk of your time will be spent owning the product development process from conceptual designs through approvals, working on promotions and our entertainment pipeline. You will own day-to-day communications with licensees and delegate others to appropriate subject matter experts. All manner of licensed, promotions and entertainment projects will be impacted by this role. Hardlines, softlines, packaging, publishing, marketing collateral, are all examples.

Just as importantly, you will act as a steward of the creative translation of Magic across these efforts, ensuring appropriate creative consistency, integrity, design, and quality. To that end, you'll use your keen judgment and deep knowledge to balance Franchise direction with the unique needs of each new project.

Aside from the critical path responsibilities of project trafficking, feedback, and approvals, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to update and ever-improve the resources and tools that Wizards relies on for scalability. We need a partner who is passionate in their desire to make resources more organized, intuitive, and accessible than they were the week before. Everything from tagging assets to contributing as a thought leader for entire systems and processes are in bounds for this role!

What You'll Bring

  • A passion for working collaboratively, a love of delivering quality offerings to an audience, and a healthy relationship with feedback.
  • Curiosity and ingenuity to find or craft answers for new questions and needs presented by new efforts. We need a partner who is fully advised by our past but is devoted to the stewardship of our future!
  • An inherent enjoyment for working in various tools to enable creative development. You will need to become fluent in Brainbase, FMP, and our digital asset management system.
  • Equal parts eye-for-detail and ability to keep the larger goals in mind.
  • Outstanding communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
  • Two to three years of demonstrated ability in related fields. This could be creative development, art direction, coordinating creative workflows, asset management, publishing, and/or consumer products.
  • Direct experience in developing consumer products and using related tools will be a big plus.
  • A love of pop culture and is up to speed with design and cultural trends,
  • Lastly, existing knowledge of Magic: The Gathering will be invaluable for this role.
