Title: School-Based Creative Arts Therapist

Reports to: Chief Clinical Officer

Position Summary:

The School-Based Creative Arts Therapist will work with K-12 students who have experienced anxiety, trauma, depression, post-traumatic stress, and other behavioral or mental health challenges. It is preferred that the therapist specialize in dance/movement therapy; however, other acceptable modalities include visual arts, music, or other related therapies (drama, poetry, recreational)

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify students in need of trauma support and to provide prevention, screening, referral and treatment services to students potentially in need of services.
  • Provide trauma-informed therapy and counseling interventions (group, individual and/or family) for at-risk students, with a focus on Creative Arts modalities.
  • Provide mentoring and other intervention models to children and their families who have experienced trauma or are at risk of experiencing trauma, including those who are low-income, homeless, in foster care, involved in the criminal justice system, unemployed, experiencing a mental illness or substance abuse disorder or not enrolled in or at risk of dropping out of an educational institution.
  • Provide case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.
  • Provide quality trauma support and behavioral health care services.
  • In summer months, provide home-based services, if/when required, to the families of students who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing trauma, including those who are low-income, homeless, involved in the child welfare system or involved in the juvenile justice system.

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree required in counseling, psychology, or related field
  • Required Creative Arts therapy certification such as Dance/Movement Therapist (DMT or BC-DMT), Registered Arts Therapist (ATR or ATR-BC), Music Therapist (MT or BC-MT), or other related Creative Arts certifications
  • Expertise in providing Creative Arts therapy to all age groups; proficient in numerous clinical interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Knowledge of and ability to access community resources; strong trauma intervention skills

Work Environment:

One or more school locations during academic school year; virtual services, home, and community locations during the summers

Work Hours:

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position. Evening and/or weekend work can be expected as well as the sudden need for crisis intervention.

Travel:

Travel to the designated school, various homes, and community settings within the designated school district.
