Counseling in Schools, Inc. (CIS) is a dynamic school-based, non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to supporting the emotional and social well-being of New York City school communities.
CIS is actively seeking a Part-time Creative Arts Therapist (4 Days per week) to provide on-site counseling at Queens United Middle School (Grades 6-8) in Laurelton, Queens. The role encompasses diverse responsibilities, including individual and group counseling, family engagement/support, open art studios, community engagement, classroom push-ins, workshops, collaboration with teachers and school support staff, crisis intervention, and de-escalation.
Applicants must have a Master's degree in Creative Arts Therapy (art therapy, movement therapy, drama therapy, or music therapy). CIS is committed to supporting its staff by offering regular clinical supervision, licensing hours, and professional development to all staff. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Counseling in Schools provides CEU hours free of charge to employees.
Qualifications:
Education:
Masters Degree in Creative Arts Therapy (Creative Arts therapy, dance/ movement therapy, drama therapy, music therapy). CIS will accept candidates who are eligible for their limited permit.
Skills:
- Self-starter, takes initiative, motivated, and committed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in school-based programs
- Experience and familiarity with clinical documentation (records are both written and digital)
- Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking abilities
- Works collaboratively in a team-based setting
- Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Experience in social-emotional learning and restorative practices a plus
- Bilingual a plus
