Anoka County District Court has an amazing opportunity to join the Records Room as a Court Operations Clerk in a diverse professional environment, that promotes equity for all court staff and court users. This position performs detail-oriented work while providing excellent customer service in person and over the phone.


Court Operations Clerks work individually and in teams using independent judgment along with available resources to perform a variety of administrative assignments. This role requires dedication to providing customers with a professional court experience, an eye for detail, excellent communication, time management, and technological skills to match our high-performance environment. Robust training is provided and knowledge is gained through on-the-job experience.

Example of Duties

What You Will Do
Work includes processing electronically filed and in person copy requests, working directly with customers at a public counter and answering public phone lines, and imaging court files. Court Operations Clerks rotate through these areas as needed and must be flexible as to assignment and attention to detail.

The following are examples of major job duties expected for this position to perform:
  • Performs a high volume of telephone and in person customer service in accordance with data privacy regulations and the most current policies.
  • Communicates courteously and effectively with court stakeholders by responding to requests for documents or other information, answering questions on court policies and procedures, and assisting with the processing of applications and documents.
  • Performs routine counter work, including making copies of documents, charging appropriate fees, receipting payments made via cash, check, money order or credit card, and issuing receipts for payments.
  • Backscans and reviews imaged court files for all case types and security levels. Adds appropriate case flags to indicate physical file destroyed, if applicable.
  • Performs filing and retrieval of paper records, exhibits, electronic records, and electronic or digital records of legal or other proceedings; indexes and files a variety of records; inputs, updates, or deletes information in electronic case management system; assigns appropriate security levels for documents.
  • Operates standard office equipment such as microfilm reader/printer, copier, scanner and computer using Microsoft products.
  • May perform duties of an Electronic Recording Equipment Operator (EREO) including setting up and testing recording equipment, recording and monitoring court proceedings, creating courtroom log as necessary, backing up recordings in compliance with applicable policies and procedures, and shutting down recording equipment once recording has been completed.
  • May provide assistance to others in performing courtroom operation duties, including clerking hearings, scheduling hearings, working calendars, and assisting staff with in-court updating.
  • Attends and participates in division/team meetings and trainings; maintains knowledge of court policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

What You Must Have:
Below are the past experiences that will enable success in this role. For education requirements listed, the equivalent number of years of related experience may serve as a substitute.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of relevant job experience or greater, which may include but is not limited to customer service, administrative or office work. Additional education may substitute for experience.
Nice to Have:
  • Knowledge of court procedures and policies, laws, legal terminology, and legal factors pertaining to the court.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and cases appropriately and in compliance with all applicable court rules, policies, and statutes.
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents of varying types and complexity and apply knowledge of specific laws, statutes, rules, policies, and procedures related to the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, function, and jurisdiction of the court.

Supplemental Information

What You Will Earn: The expected hiring range for external hires for this position is $16.95 to $22.31, based on qualifications, with a full future earning potential of $35,392 - $57,754 annually. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.

Additional Information
: This AFSCME-represented position is posted for bidding, internal, and external application simultaneously and will be filled in accordance with the AFSCME contract.

Physical Work Environment:
The Records Room is located on the 1st Floor in the Anoka County Courthouse at 2100 3rd Ave. Anoka, MN 55303.Work is performed primarily in an office-setting, a public counter and/or in a courtroom. The core business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Initial days off: Saturday, Sunday, and Court Designated Holidays.

Physical Demands:
Work is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying items less than 25 pounds such as papers and files. Some positions may require periods of extended sitting, standing, use of telephones and office equipment, and use of computers to enter and retrieve data. Some positions may require standing on a ladder to retrieve files from high shelves.
