Job description

Responsible for providing personal security and protection for the judges and the general public; Facilitates communication between the judge and the jury during trials. Responds to emergency calls from courts and offices in the courthouse, also county owned buildings.
  • Provides personal security for judges and individuals in the courtroom
  • Calls witnesses for legal proceedings in the courtroom
  • Provides security for individuals and personnel throughout the courthouse during emergencies
  • Coordinates with other courthouse personnel for security in high profile trials
  • Escorts inmates from the downtown holding facility to the courthouse for arraignments, hearings, pleas, trials, etc
  • Maintain security within the inmate staging area of the courthouse and keep good records of inmates that have been requested for courts daily
  • Stay in communication between the staging area and the detention transport division
  • Locks and unlocks perimeter doors of the courthouse as needed
  • Observes security monitors in the control room, monitoring all movement in the courthouse
  • Operates magnetometers and x-ray machines
  • Operates hand wand and computer
  • Operates and monitors portable radio
  • Logs movement of deputies, inmates, and courtrooms when secured
  • Securing inmates, or arrestee with handcuffs, belly chains and or leg iron restraints
  • Must be willing to work late on occasions due to trials and or court hearings going past normal working hours
  • Patrol County owned buildings, parking lots and garages
  • Performs all duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A High School Diploma or GED Certificate; Basic Peace Officer Certification through TCOLE.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Traffic Code, and Family Code, investigation and crime prevention methods: defensive tactics. Ability to safely operate vehicles, firearms, and specialized equipment; physically restrain individuals; make decisions quickly; read and write reports, letters; operate a computer; Interpret laws, policies, and procedures; recognize problems and recommends solutions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney's office, other departmental employees, and the general public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communications, maintain accurate records; maintain appropriate certifications, Texas driver's license, and a good driving record.

CERTIFICATES, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: High School Diploma or GED certificate. Possess a valid Texas Driver's. A valid Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

The employee may be occasionally called upon to perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The officer must also be constantly aware of and manage a professional appearance, and perform all duties in a professional manner. The employee must be able to complete a one mile run in under 12:30 minutes; be able to complete 20 pushups in a minute, and 20 sit- ups in a minute.
