GENERAL PURPOSE

Performsa variety of working level,complex clerical duties designed toexpedite the functions, actions, judgments, processes, and proceduresassociated with the office of the City Justice Court.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
nbsp;
Performsclerical tasks: receives, logs and files incoming citations and complaints;maintains cross reference system; opens mail, sorts and processes; determinesfines based on fine schedule or bail if plea is not guilty; attaches appearanceby mail to citation; keeps track of payments made through the mail.
Receivestelephone calls and refers to appropriate person; answers questions aboutpretrial,nbsp; trial or hearing schedules,and assists public in resolving questions regarding various court matters;provides information about court procedures and schedules; sets appointments;conducts research in records and files as needed.
Issuesarrest and bench warrants; type warrant information, order to show cause,failure to appear and refers to Judge for signature; sends copy to PoliceDepartment; notifies county or other jurisdiction if someone is arrested;nbsp; computer enters case information; coordinateswith constable as needed to follow-up on warrant status; performs data entryinto state-wide system, recalls and tracks information with other agencies.
Reviewscitation abstracts;nbsp; monitors paymentrecords of defendants to assure conformity to judgments and payment schedules;prepares pleadings for failure to appear; utilizes legal processes such as lateletters, late notices, summons, bench warrants, warrants of arrest, orders toshow cause; may assist customer service clerk in receipting fines and othermonies and entering information into computer.
Assistsin the maintenance ofnbsp; calendar of eventssuch as trials, arraignments, sentencing, hearings, and motions; informs judgeof docket status and schedule; prepares notices of trial and pre-trial; obtainspotential juror list and processes according to court procedures; preparestrial and pretrial case materials; instructs defendants and assures viewing of"rights" video; obtains information from BCI and DLD for sentencingbynbsp; the Judge.
Assistsin the maintenance of records of court proceedings; receives and docketsnotices of appeal;nbsp; types judgments,abstracts of judgment, supplemental motions, orders to show cause, garnishmentsand executions; prepares and distributes copies of new bail schedule as needed.Process expungements
Assistsin the receiving and processing of requests for small claims proceedings;prepares affidavits and orders; explains procedures, sets hearings, collectsfees and initiates docketing.nbsp; As backup,attends court and assists the Judge in court proceedings as necessary.nbsp; As backup, attends court and assists theJudge in court proceedings as necessary.
Maintainsliaison and communications with agencies associated with the criminal justicesystem such as police department warrants divisions, bail bondsmen, prosecutingattorney offices, private councilors and public defenders, adult probation,city courts, and city offices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Graduation from high school orequivalent GED.
B.nbsp;Two years of experience related to above or similar duties; plus sixmonths of specialized training provided on the job or through professionalworkshops and seminars.
C.nbsp; Or an equivalent combination of education andexperience.

2.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Knowledge, Skills amp; Abilities:

Working knowledge of telephoneoperations and receptionist functions; legal and court terminology; basicaccounting and bookkeeping; of office methods and equipment, complex filingsystems and computerized applications for records filing.

Typing skill at 40 words per minute;computer skills.
