Job Summary
This positionwill provide work direction, instruction, and evaluation to incarcerated individuals in the production of wood products in a manufacturing or industrial setting so that quality and quantity standards match customer requirements at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Faribault. Schedule production; maintain inventory levels; establish production priorities; maintain quality and safety standards through production; perform cost estimation for products; provide project estimating to customers; and handle customer service issues related to the production and delivery of products. Ensure deliveries are on time and cost-effective.
This position is in a correctional facility (MCF - Faribault) and has direct contact incarcerated individuals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
One year of experience directing the work of others in all facets of a wood industry production operation, including setting up and operating woodworking equipment (i.e. power saws, shapers, planers, jointers, etc.); using various wood types and grades of lumber with different specifications; building prototypes; establishing production standards; product preparation and finish application (i.e., stain, paint, lacquer, etc.); and plastic laminate procedures and techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of warehousing, purchasing, transporting, or arranging the delivery of products sufficient to manage the workflow of orders; ensure quality control of orders; receive and inspect incoming products; conduct inventory counts and manage inventory levels.
  • Knowledge of health and safety hazards in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to organize and supervise individual components of the production process and read and interpret job specifications of the manufacturing shop, including knowledge to effectively determine quality standards before packaging and shipping of completed wood projects.
  • Ability to estimate costs, time and materials, and to prepare written reports.
  • Ability to establish, prioritize and schedule work to ensure product meets delivery deadline.
  • Basic personal computer skills (including spreadsheet software skills, preferably Microsoft Excel) sufficient to communicate with supervisors, customers and vendors, maintain records and complete reports.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively coordinate work with other departments and agencies and maintain effective working relationships with other shops, vendors and customers.
  • Customer service skills to effectively and diplomatically deal with customer complaints and inquiries and to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to operate wood working equipment, including Computerized Numeric Control (CNC) operated saws, routers, and molders.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
  • Work experience in a cabinet-making shop.
  • Experience with solid surface fabrication using Formica, Wilson Art, and/or Corian brands.
  • Experience in design and drafting.
  • Experience in laminate and wood casework production.
  • Experience using a post-catalyzed product finish.
  • Experience and knowledge of Computerized Numeric Control (CNC) machining and programming.
  • Experience with computerized estimating programs/systems.
  • Knowledge of MINNCOR products.
  • Ability to create detailed cut lists from schematics/drawings.

Physical Requirements
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening. Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
