Job description



The Correctional Intelligence Analyst is responsible for the gathering actionable intelligence using internal resources and open-source platforms. This position identifies, documents, and disseminates intelligence regarding unauthorized/illegal activities associated with the Baldwin County Sheriffs Correction Command (BCSCC) and aids in investigations outside the Corrections Command with a focus on disrupting and eliminating criminal activity while coordinating information sharing within the agency and with appropriate external agencies.


Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is generally performed in an office setting. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.

  • Conducts and compiles technical analysis and evaluations of intelligence data or criminal activity within and outside the Corrections Command.
  • Reviews, selects, evaluates, and consolidates incoming data and related information and ensures that follow up actions are initiated; collects additional data to fill gaps; disseminates action items to the responsible entities.
  • Generate actionable intelligence both proactively and reactively for investigations using internal/external databases, and open-source platforms in compliance with state and federal law, as well departmental policies, and procedures.
  • Utilize the intelligence cycle to convert raw information into data which can be used to support and assist investigative efforts.
  • Interacts with representatives of other law enforcement agencies to exchange intelligence regarding investigations via personal contacts, telephone, teletype, emails, or other media.
  • Liaison with private sector agencies and employees to facilitate the exchange of information.
  • Assists in training new Corrections Investigations employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is generally sedentary; may occasionally require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Ability to see details at a distance and at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Ability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit at a desk / computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear sirens, alarms, the human voice, and to accurately identify and distinguish between inputs from short and long ranges and clearly hear radio messages.
  • Possess an audible voice for in-person radio communications.
  • Possess sufficient body strength in order to perform normal duties of the position.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working with the whole hand.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Manual Dexterity: Primarily with fingers and in picking, pinching, or typing.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions.
  • Reaching: Ability to frequently extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Speaking/Talking: Ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely through speech.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer screen/terminal; and /or extensive reading, with or without correction.
  • Walking: ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.

Requires an associate degree and one (1) year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the County's insurance standards to operate a County vehicle for the purposes of job-related training / travel, as applicable.
Special Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card. Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner, have regular and prompt attendance, and respond to calls and requests for assistance during working hours, evenings, weekends, and /or holidays as needed.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, legal codes, and court procedures.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies or ability to acquire such knowledge in a short amount of time.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, and or Regex.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, including operation of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and various other office equipment including phones, faxes, scanners, printers, and copiers.
  • Skills to perform routine trouble shooting on office equipment (computers, faxes, scanners, printers, copiers).
  • Skills in critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Skills in time management and organization.
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy, compose correspondence.
  • Ability to compose effective and accurate correspondence.
  • Ability to deal with non-routine matters.
  • Ability to complete complex work with minimal instructions, keep records and reference files, assemble, and organize data.
  • Ability to navigate and learn complex databases within the first six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to work in an environment that requires strict adherence to instructions, standards, and/or procedures.
  • Ability to manage your time to accomplish objectives within a given timeframe.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of individuals representing diverse cultures and backgrounds and function verbally and effectively calmly in challenging situations which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to compute mathematical data, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages with or without a calculator.
  • Ability to comprehend and retain factual information pertaining to laws, statutes, and policies, and accurately apply what is learned.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to handle and communicate information in a confidential capacity to law enforcement personnel that does not compromise protected information outlined by policy.
  • Ability to interact with others in a positive manner
