 POSITION SUMMARY:


The Coordinator of Refugee Remote Services is a committed and determined team player who works with other remote staff to advocate for and support vulnerable refugee clients, who cannot be served from Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas-CCNEK-central location, to navigate their resettlement journey. The coordinator ascertains that the refugees receive timely support to obtain the goal of self-sufficiency. The Coordinator works with the Refugee Support Services (RSS) Manager to coordinate RSS services in Topeka and Manhattan locations. This program is designed to ensure the clients who are living in distant areas from Kansas City, Kansas, receive timely services through referrals to external service providers, such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Employment services, English classes, and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF). This position will successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings by providing case management and advocacy services funded by federal grants to support newly arrived refugees with additional vulnerabilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees provision of remote and hybrid case management services to refugees and other Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) eligible clients in remote areas of Kansas who have been granted asylum, paroled, or arrive through traditional resettlement, through completing intakes, making referrals, and connecting them to services in line with the refugee services guidelines by CCNEK.
  •  Supervises case managers at Topeka and Manhattan to ensure timely provision of services to refugee clients who are enrolled in programming or who walk in for services.
  •  Ascertains that eligible refugees obtain necessary resources, acquire life skills and work toward becoming self-sufficient in a timely manner-achieving sustained social and economic wellbeing.
  •  Ensures case management programs through Wilson Fish (WF), Adjustment and Referrals (A&R), and Employability Services (EMP) grants are coordinated, and the clients served in a timely and effective manner.
  •  Assists participants in remote areas access employment and build strategies to obtain economic advancement by ensuring the client strengthens their English language proficiency; foster civic engagement; facilitate access to and/or enhance quality of medical, mental health, childcare, and social services to promote objectives for overall family well-being.
  •  Provides case management services for a remote or hybrid caseload of refugees and immigrants enrolled in the A&R and EMP-funded Programs, and ensures that clients are well versed in their program's rights and responsibilities.
  •  Adheres to ORR and in-house policy guidelines on service provision and documentation and ensures compliance with the program goals and guidelines.
  •  Learns and implements guidelines of services for the program as set forth by ORR and Kansas Office for Refugees (KSOR) and stays up-to-date on relevant developments and public policies that affect refugees.
  • Ensures referrals received from local DCF of TANF-eligible clients are enrolled into WF; applies strengths-based approach in case management in efforts to support clients obtain self-sufficiency.
  • Develops and implements a Family Self-Sufficiency Plan (FSSP) to identify needs and services to reduce barriers in the attainment of the set goals; use evidence-based case management activities that are rooted in the best practices for serving      vulnerable populations
  • Maintains professional conduct with clients in line with the National Association of Social Work-NASW-Code of Ethics, abides by all program policies and procedures, and acts as a mandated reporter.

Requirements

  

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in social work or human service field or comparable experience is preferred.

Must have competency in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English; fluency in a second language- Ukrainian, Kiswahili, Dari, or Pashto or preferred.

Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment

Knowledge of public policy and how it affects refugees and similar immigrants.

Strong typing and internet skills as well as the ability to learn Microsoft Outlook, Excel and various database programs.

Must be able to work collaboratively with external partners and advocate on behalf of the clients. Must be reliable, punctual, professional, and respond appropriately to people in crisis.

Must have a valid driver's license, car insurance, a verified safe driving record and reliable means of transportation for local travel; must provide a copy of license and insurance.

Must demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities.

Must be willing to perform by the agency's values: love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, self- control and joy.

Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending and moving
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds 
  • Must have the physical ability to make visits to a variety of environments that may include walking on rough terrain and climbing stairs
  • Must have physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability  and appropriate licensure for driving
