The Coordinator for Facilities and Fitness is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, scheduling, and operation of the Student Recreation Center and directs a comprehensive program of instructional services and activities in fitness, wellness and leisure recreation.
Duties:
Facility Management
1. Supervise the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center to include items such as: entry and exit management, facility scheduling, special event management, locker room management, equipment check-out/return operations, and membership promotion, sales, and communications.
2. Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluating of student employees.
3. Manage the space reservation system.
4. Ensure facilities, events, and activities are properly managed and staffed.
5. Responsible for the set-up/strike and the on-site management for meetings, events, and reservations.
6. Communicate/collaborate with all Campus Recreation program units to ensure all scheduled facility reservations, events, and programs have been approved, scheduled, and communicated.
7. Conduct periodic meetings with student staff pertaining to programming and facility operations.
8. Responsible for facility maintenance and upkeep, the reporting of facility repair and cleaning needs to the appropriate university building maintenance authority and track the progress of repair and cleaning requests.
9. Responsible for the purchase, inventory, and upkeep of fitness equipment, special events equipment, leisure activity equipment, outdoor recreation equipment, sports gaming equipment and leadership development equipment.
10. Manage the billing and collection of fees associated with events hosted in the SRC.
11. Develop and enforce policies and procedures governing the conduct of participants and staff.
12. Ensure the highest possible level of customer service and work to provide exceptional customer experiences.
13. Compile weekly, semester, and annual reports for the Student Recreation Center, covering budget, attendance numbers, personnel evaluations, activity programs and initiatives.
14. Maintain records on activities and services provided.
15. Perform administrative tasks to support program delivery to include ID issues, membership management, locker rentals, deposits, etc.
16. Identify and evaluate patron needs and resolve patron issues and concerns.
17. Provide a series of Fitness and leisure recreation related special events (Examples include Rec Day, Gaming All-Niter, Homecoming Workout, Friday Night at the REC, service initiatives, etc.).
18. Prepare, coordinate, and distribute effective publicity for Student Recreation Center programs, opportunities, and updates.
Fitness Management
1. Responsible for the planning, organization, and administration of the fitness/wellness program which includes recruiting, supervising, training, scheduling, and evaluating student employees.
2. Ensure that all fitness venues are properly staffed, maintained, and equipped, with all equipment cleaned and in good working order.
3. Conduct training sessions for Fitness assistants and group fitness instructors covering skill development and enhancement, teaching techniques, risk management procedures, equipment use and care, and new fitness training techniques.
4. Each semester program a series of daily (weekday) instructional fitness activities/classes to include but not limited to cycling, yoga, aerobic dance, cardio trampoline, kick boxing, circuit training, bar blast and other contemporary fitness activities/classes.
5. Compile weekly, semester, and annual reports for programs areas covering attendance, personnel, and fitness education programs and initiatives.
6. Provide private group fitness opportunities for various campus groups.
7. Serve as an advocate for campus health and fitness.
8. Organize a campus community of fitness-minded patrons designed to enhance group and individual motivation and encouragement.
Risk Management:
1. Develop, present, and implement on-going staff development training programs and safety/risk management policies.
2. Regularly inspect program areas and equipment for possible problems or improvement.
3. Work in coordination with fitness equipment vendors to ensure all equipment is in proper working condition.
4. Supervise facility, individuals, and groups for proper eligibility, facility safety and emergency response along with evaluating and reviewing policies and procedures for supervision of groups and Facilities.
5. Ensure all student personal are certified and trained in emergency procedures and skills required of their position. (i.e. aerobics, personal training, CPR, AED, and First Aid).
Assessment:
1. Develop student learning outcomes and assist with Campus Recreation assessment on programming, education, and activities.
2. Identify recreation needs of students, and develop programs to meet those needs using various identification and assessment tools.
3. Collect, analyze, and report information to be used for university-level reports or briefings; Prepares, reviews, and edits various annual and periodic reports and proposals as well as relevant sections of various institutional, division and department publications.
4. Provide programming data that can be used for assessment and decision-making purposes.
Other:
1. Serve on Division, University, and Community committees as assigned.
2. Assist Campus Recreation with developing division wide initiatives to enhance student learning and improve the student experience.
3. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
2. Experience working in a recreation setting.
3. Ability to work with a diverse group of people and the skills to deal with the public in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
4. Ability to perform managerial responsibilities (planning, leading, budget, assessment, evaluation, and personnel management).
5. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
6. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, organize, and plan effectively.
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
8. Excellent computer skills with the capacity to promptly learn new computer software programs relevant to the proper management of the department.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of fitness equipment, along with care and use.
2. Knowledge of facility surveillance systems.
3. Knowledge of social media platforms.
4. Knowledge of leisure recreation equipment and activities.
5. Knowledge of programs such as Fusion, Banner, When to Work, Handshake, Market Place, Mazevo: and the ability to use effectively.
6. Experience in a college or university setting.
7. Experience supervising student staff.
8. Certified Red Cross CPR / First Aid / AED Instructor
9. National fitness certification from ACE, AFAA, and/or ACSM
10. Experience in sports officiating.
