Provides research assistance and information literacy instruction to individuals and groups in the use of the library's services and resources in person and electronically. Includes sharing evening and/or weekend reference duties. Maintains a high level of commitment to prompt, courteous service to all library clients.
Serves as a liaison to academic departments and programs and develops appropriate related research tools. Works with other employees in the development, execution, and promotion of library-related programs, special events, and exhibits that highlight Library resources and services and are supportive of university activities and initiatives.
Oversees collection, analysis, and accuracy of internal and external statistics.
Hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates staff, including 3 FTE, and approximately 15 student workers. Is available to open/close/cover Access Services operations beyond regularly scheduled hours on occasion.
Represents the Access Services Unit of the UNK Library in user groups and at conferences, including within the University of Nebraska Consortium of Libraries ( UNCL).
Works with the Dean, Campus Police and Facilities Management to monitor the security, safety, and overall condition and appearance of the library's public spaces.
Participates in service to the department, college, university, and community, as well as engage in continuing professional development and scholarly activity.
Experience in the access services or circulation department of an academic or public library.
Experience providing basic reference services, using online databases, catalogs, etc.
Flexibility to adjust schedule for peak activity periods and emergencies.
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with library and campus colleagues.
Experience working with diverse cultures and communities.
Proven ability to retrieve and analyze data, assess operations and services, and implement improvements.
Familiarity with building maintenance procedures and controls.
Familiarity with the ALA Code of Ethics, copyright and open access best practices.
Ability to work toward achieving tenure and promotion.
Less than 2 hrs/day: squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching (overhead, forward, low), twisting, crawling, climbing (ladder, stairs).
Less than 2 hrs/day: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 11-24 lbs.
Keyboarding with both hands; operation of computer mouse with dominant hand.
