JOB SUMMARY:
Coordinates student intake process to establish initial relationship with individuals and families upon enrollment to Hopkins House programs; Coordinates and/or provides culturally competent, comprehensive supportive services to address individual needs of families including but not limited to home visits, developmental and health screenings, counseling (individual, family and group), social skills groups, play therapy, parenting education, and self-advocacy, case management, service access guidance (i.e., housing, financial help, job training), and links to available community services; Assesses student/family's needs and eligibility for public aid and assists with application and navigating financial and personal documentation of assets, income, and expenses; and manages Hopkins House scholarship and aid programs.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- All Programs:
- Interview individuals and families during program intake process to document history, strengths, needs, and goals.
- Ensure equitable access to Hopkins House programs and services for individuals with special needs, including but not limited to those with physical and/or mental disabilities.
- Arrange transportation for students and/or family members to/from counseling, medical appointments, and basic needs shopping, as needed.
- Make referrals to health care, employment, food, housing, before/after-care, and other social services, as needed.
- Supervise young children during and when traveling to/from counseling and medical appointments when parent/guardian is unavailable and provide on-call support as scheduled or required.
- Co-facilitate or facilitate culturally appropriate educational classes for families in subjects including but not limited to behavior management, independent living skills, parenting skills, household management, anger management, pregnancy/pre-natal care, etc.
- Provide culturally appropriate education and modeling techniques for Hopkins House staff dealing directly with families.
- Manages Preschool Academy Scholarship, Jasper-Johnson STEM College Scholarship, and ECLI Fellowship application process.
- Preschool Academy:
- Develop Individual Service Plans (ISP) for children and families.
- Provide culturally appropriate education and modeling techniques, and other direct FAMILY SUPPORT services as outlined in ISP and/or Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Host parent meetings, workshops, and various activities to support robust family engagement and participation in their child's education and well-being.
- Conduct home visits to conduct needs assessment, work with families to set goals, and monitor progress.
- Arrange developmental, hearing, dental, and vision screenings for children and coordinate and monitor the delivery of clinical services to students and families.
- Co-lead or lead preschool parent/child play groups.
- Assist Case Manager, Social Worker or Counselor to conduct family assessments and provide case management services including but not limited to Child Find and/or Parent Infant Education (PIE) program.
- Provide crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and other support services to children and families.
- Observe children in classrooms and support education staff with strategies and/or behavior interventions.
- Ensure awareness and compliance with Hopkins House Preschool Academy "Behavior Guidance Policy", as needed.
- Consult regularly with Preschool Academy administrators to identify necessary intervention services, as needed, to children and families.
- General:
- Attend designated internal staff meetings and professional development trainings.
- Attend Alexandria City Family Support Project peer supervision meetings.
- Attend Trustee meetings (e.g., Scholarships & Recognitions Committee and Programs & Assessment Committee).
- Assesses and submits, as appropriate, Preschool Academy Scholarship, Jasper-Johnson STEM College Scholarship, and ECLI Fellowship applications to the Trustee committees for action.
- Maintain FAMILY SUPPORT records, including reports and records of all clinical contacts with children and families.
- Collect data and statistics as required for grant funding reporting and state and local government program assessments.
- Perform such other related duties as may, from time-to-time, be assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Associate degree or higher in social work, family counseling, mental health, psychology, or related field.
YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least two (2) years of professional work experience in related field. Clinical license in social worker is not required for this position.
OTHER RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver's license required.
- Flexible schedule during evenings and weekends required.
- Strong organizational and communication skills required.
- Fluency in English: Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Urdu, Twi, Farsi, and/or Dari preferred but not required.
