Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Cook prepares appropriate amount of high quality food for patients, staff, and customers in accordance with established recipes, menus, procedures, schedules and standards. Performs all responsibilities demonstrating service orientation to fellow employees, staff and customers.
Job Description:
These Principal Accountabilities, Requirements and Qualifications are not exhaustive, but are merely the most descriptive of the current job. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Reviews menus and production orders to determine types and quantities of food to prepare.
- Adjusts production levels to avoid surpluses or shortages.
- Prepares regular and special diet menu items following standardized recipes based on standard portion size
- Tastes food for correct seasoning, quality, and maintains proper serving temperature.
- Plans cooking schedule so that food will be ready at specified times for Tray-line and Cafeteria.
- Provides excellent food quality as determined by the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction food quality scores.
- Monitors and utilizes leftovers. Labels and Dates all unused food portions before returning them to the refrigerator or freezer.
- Operates a variety of kitchen equipment including mixers, grinders, slicers, blenders, grills, steam kettles and ovens. Checks equipment and cooking area in a timely fashion to meet safety and maintenance requirements.
- Maintains high standards of sanitation in all work areas, food handling, preparation and storage at all time.
- Accepts and performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION
- Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
- HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education (GED) or equivalent education/experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
- Experience as a cook as typically obtained in five years.
- Experience in a large volume food production kitchen as typically obtained in five years.
- Hotel / restaurant background.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of applied principles of nutrition relating to food preparation and service.
- Knowledge of proper sanitation and food temperature control.
- Able to perform non-complex arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to forty pounds.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English sufficiently in order to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must have interpersonal skills to communicate well with fellow food production/service and management personnel, supervisory staff, and customers.

Pay Range is $32.99 to $36.84 / hour
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
