CONVEYOR & SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
Hourly (Non-exempt)
Position Summary:
The Conveyor & Systems Technician is responsible for the proficient repair and service of the customer's equipment including all conveyor and systems that Heubel Shaw sells and services. The Conveyor & Systems Technician is responsible for maintaining good communication and working relationships with customers, peers and management and to be profitable with direct labor billing while working within all safety guidelines established by Heubel Shaw and OSHA.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair all types of Conveyor equipment that Heubel Shaw sells and services (ie. Hytrol, FMH, Gorbel, Caljan, Roach, Bastian, TGW, etc.)
- Installation and/or diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of various Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems including Kardex Remstar and Autostore.
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment according to schedule, established procedures and cost guidelines at customer’s facility.
- Proficient in lacing, splicing, cutting, vulcanized, and cold bonding belts.
- Mechanical, Electric, Pneumatic and software integration problem solving.
- Perform alignment & tracking of belts.
- Update training and skills on a continuing basis.
- Train other employees as needed.
- Complete all service documentation in a timely, accurate fashion.
- Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable.
- Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.
- Maintain an accurate assigned parts inventory, if applicable.
- Pass all available certifications appropriate to the position.
- Maintain good working knowledge of customers and equipment in assigned areas.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to take directions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must have working knowledge of basic D.C. electricity and basic A.C. electricity.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Maintain personally owned tools according to approved minimum levels.
- Must have working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Must have strong mechanical abilities.
Education Required:
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED)
Experience Required:
- Minimum of 3 years breakdown experience or comparable service experience.
Physical Job Demands:
Regularly push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. Lifting devices and/or asking for assistance is recommended for anything more than 75 lbs. Must exert 200lbs torque on tools. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Frequent bending, stooping and kneeling. Occasionally be able to climb ladders, work on elevated platforms that may be 15’ to 30’ in height. Activities require handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by utilizing hand tools, power and air tools, fasteners and other small parts.
Often work in cramped workspaces that require getting into awkward positions. Exposed to various chemicals, such as hydraulic& brake fluid, chemical degreasers, and lubricants daily. Temperatures can vary due to the customer’s environment and application. It can range from over 100 degrees to a freezer or cooler dock. Exposed to loud noise that is distracting and uncomfortable based on customer service calls.
Occasional exposure to inadequate lighting conditions.
