Library Systems Technician
Kent Library
Full Time, 12-month position
Kent Library's Systems unit is responsible for the set-up and maintenance of all library computer systems as well as the installation, updating, and troubleshooting of library-specific hardware and software; ensuring error-free communication between library and university systems; and designing and maintaining library webpages.
The Systems Technician is the primary contact for all technology-related needs or issues within Kent Library. This position is responsible for installing and maintaining hardware, software, and peripherals; helping administer the library management system (LMS); programming library-specific software; managing the library’s servers; and backing up the Library Systems manager when needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide a wide range of library technology support
- Design and program custom solutions for the library, such as single sign-on and web page content management
- Maintain and troubleshoot the library user authentication service and library staff user accounts
- Share responsibility for the administration of library web and data servers
- Assist with local administration of the LMS and other library-specific software
- Cross-train and back up the Systems manager when needed
- Install and maintain PC- and Apple-based hardware, software, and peripherals
- Provide training to library staff on proper software and hardware use
- Participate in researching and evaluating new library technologies
Required Qualifications
- Experience in a computer-related field; computer programming experience a plus
- Demonstrated experience with Windows-based products including Server, Windows 11, and Microsoft Office 365
- Knowledge of networking protocols and best practices
- Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and peripherals
- Evidence of creating or maintaining webpages using a content management system
- Understanding of excellent customer service
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to lift 35 pounds daily with or without accommodation
