The Role
We are currently looking for you to take on the role of Controls Engineer based out of Fort Wayne. As Controls Systems Engineer Apply your technical expertise to deliver automation equipment supporting GM manufacturing processes. You will support multiple Project Executions for Machine Controls as this work will be performed in a assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. As an individual contributor role with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire project development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution. In this role, you will have the opportunity to positively influence our Organizational Culture by modelling a commitment to GM’s Cultural Behaviors in driving toward and achieving desired business results.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Provide technical/engineering support to assist production and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment/process failures and with identifying effective follow-up countermeasures
Support Automation implementation/execution (equipment design, build and install through to customer acceptance) while striving for continuous improvement and optimization
Provide technical direction to less experienced Controls Engineers and suppliers
Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology
Design and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems
Demonstrate ability to manage projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
Support all Project deliverables G Risk, RYG buyoffs, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing
Site Infrastructure IT systems coordination for projects
Demonstrate ability in project management skills
Ensure training plans for plant teams are in place for all new technologies coming to the site
Ensure new and existing equipment meets operational requirements and appropriate standards
Ensure proper documentation (drawings, manuals, PM schedules etc.) is available and properly maintained for all equipment in assigned area, ensure spare parts availability, and develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Maintain current knowledge in fields of expertise, emerging trends of areas of expertise as relating to equipment standards, GM Requirements, etc.
Identify technical training and knowledge transfer opportunities with other Controls Engineers, Interns, and Maintenance Associates
Design and manage key strategic interfaces within systems to enable component reuse and consistency to standard methodologies
Provide support to other specialists for root cause analysis
Design Tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvements
Identify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective actions
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or its equivalent in a related technical field, preferably with a minimum of 2 years of experience in automation controls
3+ years of experience in manufacturing environment
5+ years of PLC work experience (Controls Engineer)
PLC experience with ladder logic, and schematics (Controls Engineer)
Strong technical aptitude working with industrial electrical systems regulations, design and maintenance, particularly automation and controls systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues
Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Maximo, Rockwell and other technical software
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley PLC
Intermediate or advanced Control Logix PLC programming
Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives and HMIs
General knowledge of Automotive Assembly application and operations
