A Day in the Life of a Controller
As the Controller, reporting to the CFO, you'll be the process owner for all accounting functions - ensuring the company's financial health and ability to grow into the future. You'll be responsible for the monthly, quarterly and year-end close and consolidation processes. You'll manage payroll, billing, and AP teams. You will also work with our Contracts department, ensuring that the company is in contract compliance with all regulatory requirements, including all statutory taxes and contract-related FAR requirements. You will use your experience and expertise to create new processes and optimize the current processes at Toole. You will work in a supportive environment that emphasizes collaboration rather than working in silos.
Qualifications of a Controller:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, CPA preferred
- 10+ years of accounting experience, 5+ years in an architecture/engineering/planning field or consulting or government contracting environment
- 4+ years managing staff
- Experience supporting finance and contracts team in accounting for projects in accordance with FAR and DCAA guidelines
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint (required)

Work Schedule for a Controller:
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Seattle office of Toole Design is conveniently located in the heart of Seattle's Business District blocks from the Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, Central Public Library, and Waterfront. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit or ferry. RapidRide lines C, D and E stop right in front, and multiple Sound Transit light rail and Sounder Commuter rail lines are a short walk to the office. Bike lanes are close by on 2nd and 4th avenues.
