Job Description
Iron Mechanical is a large-scale plumbing and HVAC subcontractor with projects across the state, focusing primarily on multi-family housing and high rises, but also much, much, more! Our team is dynamic, fun, tight-knit and growing fast! We are currently looking for an experienced Controller to join our Accounting Team and ever-growing company! The ideal candidate has plumbing and/or HVAC-specific experience in the construction field as a Controller and has the ability to successfully lead a team of five or more! Experience in construction is preferred, but not required!
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Financial Reporting: Maintain fixed asset, depreciation, and amortization schedules. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close by analyzing billings vs. cost reports and reconciling the general ledger. Coordinate and assist with the preparation of the work-in-progress schedule, cash flow, and financial statements.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee daily operations in the department. Process weekly check runs and pay-when-paid check runs. Ensure monthly public works reporting is complete and timely. Research accounting issues as needed.
- Supervision: Plan, direct, and coordinate accounting staff to ensure deadlines are met and work is completed timely and accurately.
- Insurance: Oversee monthly payroll reporting for workers’ compensation. Monitor insurance costs by job and manage audit process for policies.
- Relationship management: Develop and maintain positive professional relationships both internally and externally.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Five years’ experience in mid-to-high level general ledger accounting and financial processes (e.g. financial closure, financial reporting)
- Two years’ supervising and developing staff
- Solid knowledge of GAAP
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented
- Excellent time-management skills
- Ability to see the “big picture” and open to receiving feedback and direction
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict attention to detail while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
