Responsibilities
The Controller manages finance and accounting transactions, processes, and reporting providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist management, its shareholders and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company's future. This role starts as a department of one responsible for all accounting transactions, processes, and reporting, with the ability to lead a team as the company scales.
Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Accounting - Perform/Oversee corporate accounting functions, which includes processing payroll, recording transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP (ex. ASC606 Revenue Recognition), completing the month-end and year-end close processes, managing company receivables and payables, and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and company financial and reporting systems. Ensure internal controls are implemented and effective. Manage the annual external financial audit. Participate in periodic valuation assessments.
Reporting - Generate timely and accurate financial and operational reports, perform variance analysis, and work with management to understand and communicate anomalies to executives. Ensure all external reporting requirements are met
FP&A – Design and build financial models for analysis, management and investor reporting; Coordinate the annual budgeting process and provide explanations for variances from expectations. Generate monthly forecasts to monitor company performance. Function as the financial business partner to management and provide support and financial insights around corporate initiatives.
Corporate Registration & Taxes - Ensure the accuracy of and compliance with all federal and state payroll, regulatory and tax reporting requirements. Facilitate the corporate foreign registration process as needed.
Contracts - Maintain corporate contracts and agreements and monitor company compliance with customer and vendor obligations.
P&C Insurance - Maintain corporate insurance policies and facilitate annual renewal process.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Requirements
We’re looking for a Controller who’s passionate about using technology to help the most vulnerable. You’re someone who believes the right data can help build better one-to-one relationships with communities in need of extra support. You have expertise in the following areas:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; Ten years of hands-on, full-cycle accounting and financial analysis experience; CPA or extensive experience in a capacity which would provide necessary accounting and analytical experience to complete the requirements of the position, such as a Controller
Demonstrates proficiency with advanced Excel, ERP’s (Sage Intacct preferred) and financial modeling techniques;
Shows attention to detail by achieving thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks;
Consistently produces high quality, professional work;
Recognizes areas for improvement;
Possesses a proactive nature;
Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making skills;

Previous experience working with a startup company and performing financial due diligence; Experience with payroll and human resources a plus
