General Role
Under the direction of the CFO, the Controller will help plan and execute agency-wide financial oversight and initiatives integral to the success of ABCD. With special emphasis on maintaining the integrity of internal controls, the Controller review an analyze agency information to provide value to the program services provided by ABCD.
Education / Experience / Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting and 10 years financial management and accounting experience, CPA strongly preferred
Management and supervisory skill
Excellent organizational and time management skill
Proficient in accounting software, journal entries, and building reports
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
Capacity to work with culturally diverse population
Ability to work as part of a team and supervise individuals effectively
Ability to drive and travel as needed
Essential Duties:
1. Oversees training programs and identifies training needs of the Finance and other departmental staff
2. Ensures compliance with filing deadlines for SF-424, SF-428, SF-429, and all other federal filings as required by Head Start
3. Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
4. Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
5. Performs bank and other account reconciliations.
6. Prepares and maintains journal entries and backup documentation, reviews for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.
7. Periodically reviews DocuWare for completeness and accuracy in conjunction with the Finance Manager.
8. Recommends benchmarks, develops and maintains agency dashboards used to measure the company's performance.
9. Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
10. Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
11. Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
12. Participation in cross-training for other positions' duties within the Finance Department. Performs these functions as needed.
13. Serves on the Management Team, an organizational team of subject-matter experts, to help guide ABCD's goals and initiatives
14. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
15. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
