Job Summary
The Controller is responsible for general and daily oversight and management of accounting and financial operations and other areas relating to financial reporting. Oversees and supervises management and other staff in financial and accounting areas ensuring efficient and accurate operations and results. Is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
Essential Responsibilities
- Ensures accurate and timely accounting, and reporting of financial information as scheduled and required, and ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
- Assist the CFO in determining program costs and financial impacts, information analysis and tracking and ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounting and finance transactions.
- Supports budget and forecasting activities.
- Collaborates with the CFO to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Advises accounting management and staff regarding the handling of non-routine accounting and finance transactions.
- Responds to inquiries from the CFO and other Company executives and managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
- Partners with the CFO to ensure a clean and timely year end audit.
- Oversees accounting operations and staff to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Works with CFO to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Supports the CFO with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Effectively maintaining, overseeing and managing a variety of required and necessary accounting, finance, compliance and personnel activities and efforts.
- Effectively working with leadership and team members across the enterprise to accomplish projects and performance goals.
- Maintaining and ensuring compliance with all applicable certifications, regulations and legal requirements.
- Maintaining a high level of integrity and appropriate confidentiality in all activities and efforts.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and make critical decisions.
- Addresses and resolves a wide variety of complex accounting and finance issues and problems.
- Makes recommendations for improvements in processes, programs, productivity and services.
- Establishes and/or supports company and departmental goals and objectives; makes decisions based upon best approach/practices to meet those goals, objectives and performance requirements.
- Makes decisions based upon the appropriate application of accounting best practices.
- Performs any and all additional duties as required for this position.
Basic Qualifications
Experience
- An additional 5 years of work experience in an accounting management and/or controller level role.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent directly related progressive experience.
License, Certification, Registration
- Certified Public Accountant Certification required
Additional Requirements
- Strong knowledge of accounting, finance and business operations preferably in a dental plan member/provider network environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, management and supervision processes, and strong problem-solving techniques.
