ABOUT THE ROLE
The Content Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day planning and execution of content for the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s marketing initiatives. This entry level role will be managed with the guidance of the Marketing and Communications Director and with the support of a cross-functional team. The person in this role writes, produces, and edits compelling stories and other content that engages key audience groups in ways that further the YMCA’s mission. They plan and produce content for multiple channels, including digital, print, and broadcast. In addition, they provide public relations and media relations support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and develop strategies for delivering content and communications across all internal and external channels
- Create and maintain editorial calendars for content marketing efforts
- Collaborate with staff association-wide to develop, create, and maintain content to further the Y’s strategic goals
- Use multimedia (photo, video, written word) to gather, write, and produce compelling stories, blogs, social media posts, videos/multimedia, ads, and other content that drives engagement
- Support planning and execution of email marketing efforts, including newsletters, program messages, and donor communication
- Create messaging that showcases the impact of Y programs in multiple communities; effectively tell the Y story to increase awareness and position the Y as a leading nonprofit, charitable, and community organization
- Assist with media relations and public relations efforts
- Follow and model editorial standards and best practices, including providing writing and proofreading support
- Ensure that all dimensions of diversity are represented in content produced
- Adhere to YMCA brand standards for voice, text, and imagery
- Assist as needed with YMCA functions and special events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:
- Minimum of two years of professional marketing and communications experience, preferably with content creation on a variety of social media platforms
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, English, or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Spanish speaker preferred
- Exceptional oral and written communicator with strong copywriting and video production skills
- Highly sociable, outgoing, and curious
- Able to produce high-quality work at a quick pace on tight deadlines
- Creative and innovative thinker with ability to add value to team discussions and planning sessions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to work under pressure while balancing multiple priorities and competing deadlines
- Ability to work with and for others; has professional communication skills for interacting with a variety of audiences
- Strong technical skills and familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn; proficient with social media management and scheduling tools
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Sprout Social, and Drupal

- Based in office with occasional remote opportunities after six months of satisfactory job performance
- Requires reliable transportation for frequent local travel to communities served, with paid mileage
