Job Purpose
With the goal of providing new value to our next generation of products, the Consumer Insights Specialist will be focused on Honda’s evolving customer experience in and around the vehicle (both physical and digital). The ideal candidate will be able to implement both quantitative and qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, mixed-method studies, new product validations, and clinic facilitation) to understand the “why” behind customer behavior to better inform our product initiatives. This position will partner with cross-functional teams on multiple projects which will address key moments in the customer journey. They will advocate for the user through rigorous analysis to interpret data for better product decisions. The focus will be on the front end of the customer experience and extraction of pain points, requirements, and opportunity spaces. All work will be in advance of Mass Production.
Key Accountabilities
  • Write detailed research plans which communicate the full scope of each project initiative. Lead junior members through moderated and unmoderated user tests and interviews. Execute market analysis and research activities to provide product insights and recommendations.
  • Identify ideal methodology and provide oversight on the data collection process and analytic work plan to ensure all available information will be generated to support business needs. Leverage research data to proactively identify business opportunities; gain internal support to advance these opportunities. Communicate research analysis and actionable product recommendations via presentations and written reports to leadership including executives.
  • Lead a small team in creation of research and testing analysis and reports. Manage research data archives (test findings and video recordings). Study competitor products to identify market trends and identify potential addressable gaps. Lead, manage, and moderate internal and external research clinics.
  • Managing external agencies for the execution of research projects.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Bachelors degree in Consumer insights, Market research, Behavioral Science, or in related field (i.e. Sensory Science) ; Masters degree is preferred.
Minimum 8 years of professional experience with demonstrated experience in project management.
Other Job-Specific Skills :
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant research case studies.
  • Familiarity with remote testing tools and ethnographic research digital tools.
  • Expertise in human centered research & design principles
  • Expertise: 7+ years in applied research techniques (Consumer Insights and experimentation & testing)
  • Expertise in quantitative research methods(surveys), experiment design, behavioral analysis, and statistics
  • Experience defining research roadmaps, prioritizing parallel efforts and leading highly complex multi-method research studies.
  • History of leading cross-functional teams and delivering on measurable business outcomes
  • Experience with data science tools including programming: SPSS, Crosstabs, Consumer Intelligence databases, etc.
  • Experience interviewing users in a one-on-one and face-to-face context
  • Artistic traits of openness to experience and abstract thinking.
  • Naturally curious disposition
  • Able to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with strong ability to synthesize and communicate ideas visually, verbally, and in writing, influencing at the executive level.
  • High degree of initiative, personal responsibility, and ownership
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expert data management and analytics skillset and modern tools, techniques ready to apply.

Working Conditions
Use of basic desk and computer. Use of basic hand and cutting tools for prototyping. Light lifting, less than 30lbs.
Travel in US and to Japan ~ 2x per year.
