Overview
TRC is looking for an experienced Structures Inspector to support our team in the Santa Clarita area. Under general supervision, the inspector applies the strong technical skills of a highly experienced field representative, researching and interpreting contract requirements to determine whether construction work is proceeding in substantial compliance with plans, contracts, specifications and special provisions.
Responsibilities

• Reads contract plans, specifications, shop drawings, and regulatory agency manuals.
• Observes construction work such as trench excavation, pipe placement, backfill operations, pile driving, structure placement, steel reinforcement, concrete pouring, signalization and lighting, etc.
• Performs density and asphalt tests; samples and verifies certification of materials.
• Reviews shop drawings within limited area of expertise; logs and reports materials and work.
• Assists in directing the daily activities of less experienced staff.

Qualifications

• Relevant Caltrans roadway, bridges and structures construction inspection experience.
• High school diploma (or equivalent) plus twelve years related experience OR an associate degree in a related technical field plus ten years related experience is required.
• Experience verifying construction steel reinforcement placement, concrete placement, drill shaft/pile driving, drainage structure placement, subgrade and base construction, signalization, CTMS, lighting, etc.
• Experience interpreting testing of soil density, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.
• Experience interpreting Caltrans roadway construction plans, specifications and special provisions.
• Experience resolving differences in interpretation of construction plans and/or specifications.
• Experience performing inspection and preparing documentation requirements.
• Experience compiling and maintaining working plan set.
• Experience performing barricade and signs inspections to ensure compliance.
• Experience monitoring construction phasing and TCPs.
• Experience performing field measurements to develop pay quantities and pay sheets for actual work completed by the Contractor.
• Experience assisting with the preparation of monthly estimates and resolving un-installed pay work.
• Experience developing quantities calculations for change orders.
• Ability to walk long distances, climb ladders, stoop, squat and crawl down into ditches; ability to observe construction activities and distinguish colors; and ability to perceive back-up alarms and other warnings.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions, subject to insects, flooded terrain and equipment/traffic hazards.
• If position requires driving company vehicle, incumbent must have valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy.

In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $75.00 per hour - $105.00 per hour. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
