Construction Estimator

SUMMARY:

Established construction supplier/manufacturer headquartered in Lapeer, MI, is seeking a Construction Estimator. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other construction documents to determine requirements and prepare itemized lists.
• Communicates with Architect/Owner working to establish clarification of contract documents.
• Executes accurate, timely take-offs.
• Requests, receives, and evaluates supplier quotes.
• Computes cost estimates for materials, equipment, manufacturing activities, labor, and subcontracted work.
• Assists the Project Manager in the identification of unique project requirements.
• Maintains price books and product library.
• Researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, and service.
• Develops effective relationships with vendors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Experience managing estimates or other projects with demanding schedules.
• Candidate must be capable of taking ownership and leading in the preparation of a complete estimate/proposal, including identifying risk and opportunities.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, diagram, or schedule form.
• A mechanical aptitude for understanding construction methods.
• Experience in MS Excel and MS Word is required.
• Applicant must have solid organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
• Exhibits exceptional professional judgment.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize without significant direct supervision.
• Ability to read and interpret construction project plans and specifications is desired.
• Knowledge of building construction, materials, and methods is desired.
• Experience with other software applications including Visual Analysis, AutoCAD, and Estimating software is desired.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field is desired.
• Demonstrated construction estimation experience preferably with structural systems is desired.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
