Description
The Construction & Facilities Manager works closely with the Director of Preservation and the Preservation Manager to manage a team of technicians, contractors, materials, equipment and other assets to carry out maintenance and construction projects at Taliesin West, a National Historic Landmark and UNESCO World Heritage site comprised of 495 acres of preserve land and 80,000 square feet of historic buildings. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, technical, problem solving, and collaboration skills, a demonstrated ability to remain flexible and adaptable in a dynamic organization, and a deep appreciation for the unique challenges involved in caring for a historic property.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise and direct a team of Grounds, Facilities, and Custodial Technicians on projects in accordance with priorities set by the Director of Preservation. Assist the team in the field and provide guidance and training as needed.
- Coordinate work, procure material, and maintain equipment needed to support routine and preventative maintenance and preservation projects.
- Oversee work in progress to ensure compliance with established quality, safety, and building specification requirements including OSHA, the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and the Taliesin West Preservation Master Plan.
- Monitor and ensure that approved projects proceed according to established timelines, cost estimates, and construction documents.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate operation and maintenance of building systems including, but not limited to building alarms, electrical infrastructure, mechanical systems, and plumbing infrastructure for minor and major maintenance projects.
- Manage staff maintenance requests submitted through an online ticket request system and oversee weekly tasks in the facilities routine maintenance calendar, ensuring timely resolution.
- Oversee department safety program and the maintenance of state and federal workplace safety logs to ensure OSHA compliance.
- Support Director of Preservation with oversight of site security and contracted personnel.
- Work collaboratively with the Preservation Manager to document Construction and maintenance projects through photography and written logs and narratives.
- Support Director of Preservation and Preservation Manager in project planning including but not limited to development of scope, bidding, review of project proposals, material and labor estimates, and schedule development.
- Oversee preparation of on-site housing by custodial staff for overnight guests. Ensure on-site housing is maintained and functional for guests.
- Other related duties as assigned.
This position is a full time exempt (salaried) position with a target starting rate of up to $70,000/year plus comprehensive benefits including a paid-time-off package. Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum seven (7) years in facilities maintenance, construction management, engineering, architecture, etc.; or the equivalent level of education and/or experience.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience supervising/managing facilities or maintenance personnel.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of maintenance/construction standards, methods, and materials.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and unexpected events or delays.
- OSHA training and proven knowledge and ability to follow and enforce regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to foster a team focused, supportive, and cooperative environment with staff, contractors, vendors, and the public.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems.
- Ability to understand and follow Foundation and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to work weekdays and occasional nights and weekends and be available for emergency calls and repairs outside of normal business hours.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution in a related field.
- Knowledge and experience applying building codes, standards, and construction methods to historic preservation projects.
- Proficient in Autodesk/AutoCAD and project planning software.
- More than five years' experience at historic facilities and/or in a residential setting.
- Professional engineering license and/or project management experience.
