The Concrete Specialist works 4-10-hour days: either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday based out of either our San Casa Yard located in Englewood, FL or the Punta Gorda Yard.
The Concrete Specialist performs specialized, manual work associated with the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of concrete, brick, and/or block structures and surfaces.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees assigned projects and participates in work involving the fabrication, alteration, repair, and maintenance of walls, sidewalks, driveways, curbs, floors, manholes, catch basins, and other cement structures.
- Forms, re-bars, tie wires, and pours top and bottom for catch basins.
- Lays blocks or bricks following blueprints, plans, or drawings.
- Cuts or breaks brick or block using hammers, powered abrasive saws, paving breakers, drills, backhoe, and/or hand tools: and removes sidewalks, slope pads, etc.
- Lays out work using chalk lines, plumb bobs, tapes, squares and levels: grades sidewalks; sets molds and forms.
- Mixes and pours cement using hand tools, cement-mixing equipment, and/or concrete pumps.
- Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
- Determines work requirements and sequencing of assignments through review of work orders, plans, or drawings.
- Prepares estimates of material and labor needed for assigned projects.
- Provide exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaints by all forms of communication.
Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience in concrete and masonry work.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida class "E" Driver's License or obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of position assignment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of masonry practices, materials, and equipment.
- Skill in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of masonry structures and surfaces.
- Ability to operate and use a contractor's level and laser level.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
- Ability to follow technical or complex written and oral instructions.
- Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to perform manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
- Skill in the use of standard computer equipment, tablets, smart phones, and applicable software applications.
- Able to answer correspondence through phone, email, or other messaging applications, and perform data entry via keyboard, mouse and or touchscreen.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions: Work typically requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors or dust).
Risk/Safety Conditions:This position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, assault and battery, communicable disease, etc.).
Physical Activities: Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of over 50 pounds.
