The Physical Security Systems (SEC-PSS) group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for providing systems design for the Administrative Access Control System (AACS) and the Argus security system at the Laboratory. As a valuable member of the SEC-PSS Design Team, you will become fully proficient in creating design packages for both the AACS and Argus systems. This will include gaining knowledge in providing expertise with interior and exterior sensor technologies, closed circuit television and assessment, access control configuration and components, various DOE approved security systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), vehicle barrier system configuration and components, metal, Special Nuclear Material, and explosives detectors.
Computer & Information Security Specialist 1 $67,800 - $107,700
As a Computer & Information Security Specialist 1, you will be working as part of the security systems design team. You will be producing access control, intrusion detection, and video system drawing packages for facilities at LANL. Regular functions include but are not limited to: performing walk downs of existing facilities, creating access control and/or security systems designs, develop initial security design solutions for new facilities, additions and renovations; function and contribute to a strong team-work environment. Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. - Become proficient with the AACS badging systems and the Argus security system.
- An understanding of engineering and security policies, programs, procedures, and practices related to design and drafting for security systems.
- Become experienced in producing drawing packages for access controls, intrusion detection, and video systems.
- Develop design packages with little to no supervision.
- Interact more with internal leadership as well as outside organizations to accomplish work tasks, including design projects.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience in use of computer-aided drafting (CAD) software tools to produce models, drawings, layouts, and sketches of components.
- Good oral and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and customers.
- Ability to work in collaboration with the security team to ensure drawing/design accuracy and quality.
- Working level understanding of modeling and drawing drafting principals for application of symbols and notes, to drawings and models to capture design intent.
Education/Experience at Computer & Information Security Specialist 1: Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

- Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principals and procedures.
