Job description

Oversee and coordinate airport security activities within the Aviation Department. Ensure Aviation security conditions are in compliance and current; to include facilitating and conducting security inspections, security trainings, coordinating security functions, and enforce policies and regulations. Perform a variety of administrative, professional and technical tasks in support of Aviation Security.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in aviation management, airport operations, Aviation Security, criminal justice, business administration or public administration; and
Five (5) years of airport or airline security, airport operations, airlines operations or law enforcement experience; and
To include one (1) year of aviation related experience; and
To include two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Airport Certified Employee (ACE) or Certified Member (C.M.) Certification or American Association of Airport Executives Accreditation (AAE), Airport Security Coordinator, Airport Trusted Agent, TSA Regulation Part 1542 certification preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Must be able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Successful completion of a security background check conducted by U.S. Customs & Border Protection.

  • Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 139, Transportation Security Regulation (TSR) 1521, 1540, and 1542, TSA Security Directives and Amendments, Advisory Circulars 150 series, , Emergency Plan Procedures and Airport Security Plan requirements.
  • Excel and word processing software applications
  • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Principles and procedures of inventory management.
  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing Aviation Security services
  • Coordinate and direct Aviation Security activities
  • Analyze problems and identify alternative solutions in support of Aviation Security
  • Work effectively under stressful conditions
  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing training services
  • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
  • Train employees on safety related subjects
  • Prepare accurate schedules, outlines, materials and reports
  • Respond professionally to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the general public
