Position Summary
The Cyber Security Specialist is a member of the Computer Services professional staff that plays an essential role in supporting the university's efforts to safeguard its information systems and data from cyber threats. Working closely with the Cyber Security team, you will help implement and maintain security measures, monitor and respond to security incidents and contribute to ongoing security awareness initiatives. This role requires an understanding of Cyber Security principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with other IT professionals and other university stakeholders.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and respond to security incidents
- Development and deliver cybersecurity awareness training
- Support the identification, assessment, and remediation of vulnerabilities in the university's information systems
- Administer and maintain security tools
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of security procedures, incident reports, and related activities
- Help ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and procedures
- Work closely with staff, faculty, students, and other university stakeholders to enhance the university's overall cybersecurity posture
- Follow office standards and methodologies
- Keep abreast of the latest security threats and vulnerabilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field or relevant certifications and/or experience
- A valid driver's license
- Must be knowledgeable with networking, operating systems, and security principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to diligently learn new software applications
- Must be willing to work off hours to accomplish tasks and to respond to security incidents
- Must have the skills to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions
Working Conditions

- Work is sedentary in nature and, at times, requires exerting 10-25 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Paid Time Off Full time exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month. Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.
Employee Educational Assistance Plan Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
