What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Security Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Do you want to support U.S. national security in an important way? If so, then we are looking for you! This position will be within Weapons Research Services Division (WRS-DO) - Secure Networks and Assurance (SNA) Group, working with the LANL Use Control Site Coordinator (UCSC), to process and verify both Sigma 14 and Sigma 15 use control information requests. Sigma 14 and Sigma 15 information are particularly sensitive and must and require extraordinary protection, so having the right person for this position is essential. The day-to-day work environment is dynamic and involves constant responsiveness by email and phone. Ability to respond quickly while maintaining professionalism to all requests that come into the Sigma Office is desired.
Sigma Processor and Verifier (Security Specialist 1) $63,200-$99,000
In this role you will learn and understand how to use the current and new Sigma System Operations Software. Process and grant new and renewing Sigma 15s by verifying badges and clearances, review Sigma justifications and manually enter sigma requests when issues arise with the website. Ability to be appointed as a Sigma Verifier with National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Work with other NNSA and Department of Defense (DoD) sites to verify Sigma access for meetings. Process Sigma 15s for long term visitors and dual citizens to verify adequate justifications. Work with WRS equities who will be developing and maintaining the new Sigma System Operations Software. Must be proficient with CPCI and US/UK Module software or be able to establish competency within a week. You will work with WRS-DO to process SIPR network access and process red to yellow file transfers. Working knowledge of LANL published policies LANL published policies and guidance, maintain good operational security, be able to take direction, and work independently as needed. You must be able to write and respond professionally to emails within and outside of LANL. You will interact with other sites within the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE), and you must maintain professional relationships with other sites. You will report to the Sigma Operations Team Lead and LANL UCSC, work with the Use Control Program Coordinator at NNSA, and work with the UCSCs at other NSE sites.
Sigma Processing Operations Lead (Security Specialist 2) $76,900-$122,200
In addition to what was outlined at Security Specialist 1 level, Security Specialist 2 you will report on Los Alamos UCSC activities. Working knowledge of and demonstrated experience working directly with other sites on Sigma access issues, process Sigma requests for long term visitors, contractors, dual citizens, guest scientists, and unusual cases.
Keep Sigma training updated and LANL policies updated and work with stakeholders to ensure policies are not in conflict. You will report to the Sigma Operations Team Lead and LANL UCSC, work with the Use Control Program Coordinator at NNSA, and work with the UCSCs at other NSE sites.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge
Working knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas - information security, physical security, computer security, personnel security, classified matter management protection and control (clearance/access processing). Working knowledge and experience with security functions requiring extensive documentation and data management. Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of security and safeguards to both technical and non-technical personnel. Skill in the preparation and presentation of security and safeguards reports. Working knowledge of the Laboratory's security and safeguards policies, practices, and procedures.
Customer Service
Ability to develop and nurture effective customer relationships. Demonstrated ability to manage customer interface with program, line management, as well as external interfaces. Exceptional customer service skills and ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others.
Organizational Skills
Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
Communication
Ability to communicate program requirement to various stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills. Ability to maintain operational security in all correspondence, written and verbal. Ability to respond professionally and quickly to all enquiries made to the Sigma Office.

Additional Job Requirements for Security Specialist 2:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Ability to partner with customers and solve problems. Skill in working closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities. Ability to work with other sites within the NSE for sigma verifications and other aspects of access authorizations.
Education/Experience at Level 1: Position requires an associate's degree and 2 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Level 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
  • High level understanding of the LANL weapons program
  • High level understanding of classified information
  • Active DOE "Q" clearance
  • Sigma access

Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
