JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Compliance Officer

DEPARTMENT: Programs

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer

MISSION STATEMENT

“The Mission of George Mark Children’s House is to provide an important addition to the continuum of care for children with life-limiting illnesses; enhancing quality of life for the entire family by offering medical, emotional, spiritual and respite support in a home-like setting that is full of life and activity regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, or socioeconomic status.”

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Compliance Office (CO) -monitors all house and clinical operational processes to ensure the organization is compliant with all regulatory, privacy, HIPAA, legal and ethical standards as described in the California Title 22 regulations for a Congregate Living Health Facility (CLHF).

This is a 24-32 hour a week, non-exempt, benefited position, which may include some weekends and evening hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

1. Compliance for House and Clinical operations (70%)

· The CO will assist the HR Manager, as needed, with an employee file audit to ensure all employee files are up to date with the regulatory documents. Example: ensure all employee files have current professional licenses (per job description), TB tests,

BLS, training and skills checklists, among others.

· The CO will work with HR to Identify training in HealthStream or appropriate education raining modules.

· The CO will work with the Director of Nursing and Case Manager to complete patient chart audits – based on regulatory requirements.

· The CO will work with the Building Engineer and Manager of Dietary and

Housekeeping to conduct monthly house inspections and documentation to

identify any areas that need upgrades or that are deficient per regulations for a CLHF license.

· The CO will work with all departmental heads to review current policies and procedures and update them as needed. Focus should be on the following:

· Clinical policies and procedures for all nursing services provided at GMCH.

· Dietary policies and procedures. Focus on food prep, storage, providing safe, nutritious meals, emergency food supply.

· Housekeeping policies and procedures with a focus on maintaining a clean, safe environment.

· Child life, with a focus on the activity program.

· Infection control policies and procedures.

· Building engineer policies and procedure. Focus on emergency preparedness and maintaining a safe environment internally and externally.

· HR, with a focus on employee regulatory requirements, training, health screening, license/certifications validations.

2. COMPLIANCE TRAINING (20%)

· The CO will train the Dietary and Housekeeping Manager, the Building Engineer, the Director of Nursing and applicable staff to be proficient in areas of compliance that affect their departments.

· The CO will train an additional staff member to serve (25% of the time) as support to compliance.

· The CO will train the HR Manager in HealthStream or appropriate education training module necessary for all staff.

3. COMMITTEES/MEETINGS (10%)

· The CO will organize and lead a quarterly QAPI committee for house performance improvement.

· The CO will work with the Dietary and Housekeeping Manager and the Building Engineer on infection control protocols and building compliance.

· Monthly house inspections with relevant departmental leads to monitor compliance with building, engineering, and infection control practices.

· Attend IDT meetings and OPS meetings to stay apprised of all house and patient related issues, events, house needs.

4. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be able to work comfortably in an alternative healthcare setting serving families and children who are seriously ill or dying.

2. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively using both written and verbal skills.

3. Interest in and ability to perform tasks in a culturally sensitive manner without regard to age, ethnicity, national origin, socioeconomic status or any other protected category as defined by Federal, State or local law(s).

4. Applicant must show the skills of managing multiple, competing and varied tasks, time management, listening skills, problem solving, decision making, and delegation of duties and successfully managing workflow.

5. This position requires conduct of the highest professional and ethical standards with patients, families, staff and volunteers at all times.

6. Understands and adheres to GMCH compliance standards as they appear in the GMCH Employee Manual, GMCH Policies and Procedures Manuals and Departmental memos.

7. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidential information.

8. Self-motivator, investigator, must work well both independently and on a team.

9. Ability to operate a personal computer and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook Calendar, and Netsmart.

10. Excellent Excel/spreadsheet skills.

11. BA or BS degree or equivalent.

12. Minimum of three or more years in a similar position and possession of RN license or minimum of 5 years in similar role,

13. Valid California Driver’s License with good driving record

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

14. Working conditions in the interior of GMCH are clean, well-lit, and free from extremes of temperature and humidity. Ability to sit, climb, reach, stand and bend, have use of both legs and hands, possess the ability to have a broad range of wrist/arm motion. Ability to grasp/hold objects and tools. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. alone and up to 75 lbs. with assistance. Hearing is sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone. Pay: From $65.00 per hour
