The Compliance Coordinator/Clients Rights Advisor assists with the planning and monitoring of new and technical aspects of program development and operation as it pertains to Wedgwood’s Compliance Program for all Residential and Community programs, helping to interpret policies and procedures and applicable laws, and to advocate for clients’ rights. They assist with the processes of program evaluation and research and assuring that compliance is maintained throughout all programs. In addition, they will assist with training on new or revised program policies and procedures, accreditation requirements, and behavioral health regulatory requirements, oversee Client Rights and Privacy, assist with internal and external audits and corrective action plans, Risk Management, the Clinical Peer Supervision process, and Incident Reports/Behavioral Management Reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the Quality Improvement Programming processes of the agency:
  • Review data received from client information tracking (including Automated Test

Scoring, Satisfaction Surveys, and Outcome Data).

  • Provide data as needed and requested for review by Administration and Program staff to monitor the effectiveness of compliance measures within all treatment programs.
  • Attend internal team meetings occasionally to assess team needs and offer assistance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new programs as the voice of the client.
  • Review Residential IPMs and Behavior Plans prior to implementation and ongoing assessment.
  • Schedule, prepare format, gather information, and summarize Peer reviews in for all service programs in the organization.
  • Support Program in coordinating teams required to discover, train, and implement the Six Core Strategies to prevent violence and restraint.
  • Residential Nursing:
    • Monitor residential programs medication protocol and medication administration error tracking.
  • Administration:
  • Assist in administering the process of agency accreditation and follow-up reviews.
  • Responsible for timely compliance as related to employees’ roles and functions.
  • On-Call when needed to upload BMRs into MiSACWIS
  • Attend and participate in Quality Improvement/Compliance/Program team meetings.
  • Client Rights Advisor
  • Be accessible for and respond to questions, concerns and issues related to Client Rights from clients, employees, teams, and committees throughout the agency, including provision of on-call coverage as assigned. Keep a log of client rights activity contacts.
  • Conduct investigations of situations involving possible lapses in quality client care.
  • Provide consultation to staff in writing Individual Program Modifications and Restrictive

Program Plans, ensuring that they conform to agency standards for client care, and

approve/review as required.

  • Provide input regarding Client Rights by participating in the agency’s Professional

Risk/Safety Management Teams.

  • Provide end of year statistical information on the volume of client rights issues

addressed.

  • Review various program documents (e.g., Suicide Precaution, Informal Complaints,

Search forms, and Individual Program Modification forms) to assure agency compliance

with applicable agency standards.

  • Convene and document an annual meeting for the review of Client Rights activities.
  • Provide client rights training to new employees via monthly Agency Awareness sessions,

and at least annually to all employees, as needed, via meetings, in-services, and memos.

  • Keep the agency’s Client Rights handbooks current and monitor their distribution to

assure all clients are informed of their rights by the time of admission.

  • Maintain knowledge of current Mental Health Code and other applicable licensing

accreditation standards for client care.

  • Develop relationships with peers from contract and sister agencies related to client

rights information, issues, and training.

  • Provide consultation and support to other program office staff as needed.
  • Privacy Officer:
    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy Rule to inform related policies and procedures.
    • Manage content and accessibility of Wedgwood’s Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP)
    • Ensure Wedgwood maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent, authorization forms, and information notices that reflect policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the HIPAA Breach Notification Rule to inform all related policies and procedures.
    • Report HIPAA breaches to HHS and Payers as required by regulation and contract.
    • Oversee process for receiving, documenting, investigating, and acting on incidents concerning potential breaches and non-compliance with privacy policies and procedures.
    • Work with all personnel involved in the release of protected health information (PHI) to ensure coordination and cooperation under policies and procedures and federal HIPAA regulations.
  • Professional Growth
  • Regular participation in supervision meetings and team meetings for the sharing of

ideas, feedback, and department planning

  • Utilize educational opportunities and resources offered by agency and through the

profession for continued development of skills and clinical expertise.

  • Work with agency staff to increase both counseling and administrative skills.
  • Responsible for timely Quality Assurance compliance as related to employee’s roles and

functions.

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a social service-related field.
  • At least two (2) years of residential and/or community-based client experience is required.
  • Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team in a residential treatment setting preferred, prior experience developing and evaluating treatment programs also preferred.
  • 1-3 years of client rights experience preferred.
  • Ability to complete trainings and/ or certifications relevant to compliance/ recipient rights internal investigations under the direction of the Dir of QI."
  • Working knowledge of basic computer programs.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all areas of the Organization.
  • Proven ability to be a client advocate and experience with person-centered planning.
  • Subscription to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Services and agreement with the goal, purpose, and objectives of the agency.

HOURS OF WORK: Full-Time, 40 hours/week
