Role Description
We believe in Access to Care - and that means for all! The Community Workforce Manager (CWM) will be instrumental in breaking down traditional barriers in accessing care and helping SF pet families get the care they need. The CWM is a skilled manager, team builder, and program planner who is collaborative, analytic, and flexible. The CWM is passionate about developing a diverse, community-centered workforce to advance access to veterinary care and create pipeline workforce programs for the SF SPCA.
This is a newly created position responsible for oversight of our Community Medicine Education Training (CoMET) program, as well as the development of the Community Ambassador (CA) pilot Program. The CWM will serve as the very first Community Ambassador and will help design and manage subsequent cohorts. The CWM works in partnership with the Director of People and Culture, Director of Community Medicine, Hospital Leadership, and our Source to Home teams to provide career pathways within animal welfare for people from underrepresented neighborhoods in San Francisco via the CoMET program, as well as perform outreach and animal care within disproportionately affected SF populations.
The CWM is an active member of the SF community and will be instrumental in establishing trusted relationships with residents in communities facing barriers in access to veterinary care.
Core Responsibilities
- Function as the very first Community Ambassador in SF by conducting community outreach (i.e. surveys, canvassing neighborhoods) to identify areas and families in greatest need of veterinary resources.
- Collaborate with external partners for CoMET program, including identification, interviewing, and management of trainees.
- Work with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Directors of Community Medicine and People departments to develop, revise, and implement initial curriculum and training manual for Community Ambassador (CA) program.
- Create additional workforce development programs as needed.
- Support team culture, communication, and relationships with external partners.
- Schedule spay/neuter appointments
- Administer DHPP and FVRCP vaccines and over-the-counter flea/tick treatment to community-owned animals.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, groups, and city/county officials.
- Identifies and maintains key metrics, reporting monthly to the Chief People & Inclusion Officer.
- Gather data, builds reports, and presents progress and impacts of CA program efforts.
- Collaborates with volunteers in community outreach activities.
- Manage CoMET Trainee timecards & schedules and conducts orientation and exit processes.
- Support strategic goals through program budget management.
- Support development and maintenance of contracts and grant proposals.
- Coach and supervise CoMET trainees and CAs, handling hiring, training, on-boarding, coaching, performance reviews, and regular feedback.
Requirements
- 6-8 years of demonstrated project management, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and execute competing demands in a work setting (various backgrounds encouraged).
- Lived experience as an engaged member of Bayview-Hunters Point or Excelsior communities in San Francisco is strongly preferred.
- Experience in collecting, managing, and reporting clean data.
- Experience working in a position that required understanding a vision, and breaking that vision into a set of requirements, and then turning them into actionable tactics.
- Available to work weekends and a non-traditional work schedule.
- An active and engaged San Francisco citizen committed to advocating for both people and animals.
- Willing to learn skills such as preparing and administering vaccinations and safe animal handling techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment, embrace and foster change, problem solve and multi-task
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
- Bilingual Spanish and/or Mandarin/Cantonese preferred
Salary & Benefits
The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $85,000-$105,000.
