Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, preferably with major in English, journalism, communications, or public relations.
Experience in professional technical writing for print, social media, and other forms of electronic communications.
Outstanding writing, proofing, and editing skills.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Experience managing media relations.
Expertise in social media strategy, including content creation, management and social media analytics.
Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
Experience in publishing and managing Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
Experience or familiarity with Sprout Social.
Skillful in video production, narration, recording, editing, broadcast writing and producing preferred.
Experience in quality still photography.
Knowledge and experience in the development of electronic newsletters preferred.
Proficient in PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, Google, and Adobe applications.
General knowledge of newspaper, radio, and television operations.
General knowledge of national and state public education issues and school district operations.
General knowledge of the Jackson municipal community

Job Goal
Uses special knowledge and technical skills obtained through education and experience to assist, implement, maintain and manage internal and external communications, while promoting a positive public image of the school district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure articulation of the school district's Core Values and Commitments of our Strategic Plan through consistent communication efforts within the school community.
Coordinate and monitor communications between the school district and community, including
social media.
Develop and produce key communication vehicles and materials, including press releases, news articles, publications, web content, and speeches, presentations and key messages.
Assist with responding to media, including responding to media requests and coordinating interviews.
Manage social media channels, including strategy, planning and evaluation.
Serve as a liaison between local media and district personnel for the purpose of ensuring compliance with privacy laws when involving students in media coverage.
Develop and maintain relationships with the local media, including newspaper and other news
outlets and disseminate information when necessary in response to media inquiries.
Work with school personnel to gather information, write press releases and articles.
Provide support to district staff as needed related to the use of communication platforms in the
district.
Utilize mass notification phone messaging system for the purpose of communicating with parents, school and district staff.
Write, produce and post articles on the district's website.
Assist school personnel in planning and publicizing schoolrelated events or activities.
In conjunction with the athletic department, promote school district extracurricular events, activities and athletic events and programs.
Assist with a variety of district events, including convocation and graduation programs, etc.
Provide creative support for internal and external communication efforts including print and electronic publications, web sites, community engagement, media and video productions.
Assist in the production and distribution of regular and special school district publications
including staff newsletters, calendars, informational brochures, handbooks, directories, etc.
Attend afterhours board and district meetings to gather information or internal and external publication.
Prepare information packets as necessary for school district stakeholders.
Generate stories and write scripts for Instructional Television.
Assist in the development of PowerPoint presentations for district personnel.
Assist school and department officials with individual communication needs.
Capture and edit photographs for print publications, social media, website, and television broadcasts.
Prepare talking points for school and district staff for media appearances and public events.
Perform other related duties as requested or assigned.
SUPPORTING MATERIALS:
Finalists will be required to submit work samples to include:
  • At least three items demonstrating experience and proficiency in writing
  • At least one item demonstrating experience and proficiency in social media publishing
  • At least one item demonstrating experience and proficiency in video production
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
