Work location: 2128 Highway 39 North, Meridian, MS

Job Type: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Hours: Normal work shift for this position is 8 hours daily, Monday-Friday. Start time varies depending on departmental and seasonal needs. Seasonal work may require (4), 10 hour days.

East MS EPA is an EOE, including disability/vets.

Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for the testing, maintenance, and installation of single-phase meters, poly-phase meters, and other electrical equipment used in meter rated applications. This position is also responsible for installation, troubleshooting and maintaining the Association's Communications infrastructure including 2-way radio, AMI, SCADA, DA, and AVL. In addition, responsibilities include operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining functionality of the AMI systems and ensuring that the appropriate meter records are maintained in the appropriate software systems.

Essential Functions:

Test, program, troubleshoot and analyze all types of meters, meter devices and metering data required for AMI systems.

Install, troubleshoot, monitor, run and analyze reports, and maintain all communication cabling and modems related to 2-way radio, AMI, SCADA, DA and AVL (fiber optics, CAT, serial).

Test, inspect, perform wiring, and assist line crews with instrument-rated metering sites.

Test meters as requested by members-consumers, analyze findings and report results.

Inspect meter-testing equipment to ensure proper operation.

Issue and maintain meter inventory.

Minimum Requirements:

Degree: High School Diploma/GED required; Two-year degree in electronics, or a related field, preferred.

Experience: Five years of relevant experience with High School Diploma/GED is required. One year of relevant experience with Associates degree in electronics, or a related field, is required. Related electrical/mechanical experience should include exposure to equipment utilized in distribution systems. Familiarity with installing and troubleshooting communication systems is recommended. Experience in installing PC hardware and software is preferred.

Must be familiar with the National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code wiring and color codes. Must be able to recognize service connection types, meter types, and meter forms. Must have an understanding of basic math skills to perform metering calculations. Must be able to use Windows based computer systems, including but not limited to, Excel, Outlook, servers, and other software systems.

Must be able to perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description. Must be able to complete a variety of activities, which require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, technical, and analytical skills. Must be able to troubleshoot problems effectively. Must be able to see and identify colors for wiring and electronics applications. Must be able to successfully complete TVPPA Electrical Metering courses and metering schools.

Must possess a valid driver's license. Class B commercial driver's license preferred.

Must be able to distinguish colors; exhibit visual depth perception; extend neck to look above, down and side to side; reach overhead, forward and to the side; extend back; use both hands and fingers, grip, and twist wrist; bend/ stoop; squat/crouch; twist; work on hands and knees; sit and stand for long periods of time; walk long distances and on uneven terrain; maintain arm-hand steadiness; work at heights using a ladder and/or bucket for long periods of time.

Fieldwork is performed in various weather conditions including, rain, extreme heat and cold temperatures, storms, with exposure to dogs and other animals/reptiles/insects and poisonous plants/vines/weeds and combative/disgruntled members and public. Work around hazardous and noisy equipment and energized power lines. Exposure to traffic hazards. Requires working on and traversing various terrains. Irregular and long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required. On-call rotation is required and must be available during emergency conditions.

Successfully complete a pre-employment physical, drug, and alcohol screen and E-Verification.
