HIRING ANNOUNCEMENTImmediate part-time police dispatchers, with the possibility of future full-time dispatcher positions.

The Mount Olive Police Department operates a Communications Center that is responsible for dispatching police, fire, and emergency medical services within Mount Olive. Upon completion of an in-house training program, part-time dispatchers will work various shifts, up to a maximum of (29) work hours per week. In the event that full-time positions open within the agency, preference is given to part-time dispatchers who are looking migrate to full-time employment.

This position is an excellent entry level position for individuals seeking a career in the public safety field (police, fire, and EMS) or individuals with experience in the field. As experience is not necessary, applications shall be completed in full and returned to the Mount Olive Police Department.

Duties include:
  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency phone calls.
  • Provide emergency medical pre-arrival instructions to callers.
  • Dispatch appropriate police, fire, and EMS in a professional and timely manner
  • Record and track calls for service in a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Process various lookups utilizing federal & state databases.
Minimum mandatory requirements:
  • Unites States Citizen
  • A resident of New Jersey
  • 18 years of age (minimum)
  • Valid High School Diploma (or GED)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • No disqualifying criminal history
  • Read, write, & speak English well
  • Be of good moral character
  • Ability to work various shifts: Days or Nights, partial or full (12-hour shifts), & as an essential employee, be able to report to work at designated time regardless of elements or weather conditions.
Salary:
  • Upon the successful completion of (480) hours of communications training, part-time dispatchers are paid $23.36 per hour.
  • Full-time dispatchers starting salary in 2023 is $53,795.36 and includes health benefits, paid time off and participation in the state pension plan.
  • Full-time dispatchers have a salary guide that includes salary raises every (24) months for years, with a top salary of $73,403.65 (2023) after six years.
Benefits:

Full-time dispatchers for the Mount Olive Police Department participate in the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP). For the most up to date information on the SHBP, please visit the state website.

Retirement/Pension:

Full-time dispatchers for the Mount Olive Police Department participate in the New Jersey Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

Paid Time Off (Full-time dispatchers):
  • Paid vacation time off based on years of service
  • Paid annual sick leave allotment
  • Paid adjustment time off earned for working 12-hour shifts
  • Paid holiday time off, essential employees may schedule the use of (14) holidays
  • Paid personal days off annually allotted
