JOB DESCRIPTION

Communications Officers provide a vital link between our citizens and police, fire, and EMS services.  Our Communications Center is a fast-paced environment with the responsibility of coordinating emergency services through our dedicated Public Safety Answering Point for an 18-square-mile community of approximately 30,000 residents.  We are an equal-opportunity employer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

• Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal, the ability to work well with others, and to think and act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

• May fill in for school crossing duties as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

• Ability to speak and read the English language. Multi-lingual is a plus.
• Familiarity and proficiency in keyboard/typing skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and make critical decisions.
• Excellent communications skills, being able to provide accurate and timely information to emergency responders.
• Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills and experience.
• Proactive self-starter with integrity, a strong work ethic, and sound judgment.
• A positive attitude and commitment to working as a team player in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years old or older.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Computer skills required.
• Must satisfy employer paid physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
• NJ residency required by N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70)
• Pursuant to Federal Law, proof of US Citizenship or immigration status will be required upon hire.

PREFFERED, BUT NOT REQURIED

• Prior police, fire, EMS experience and/or dispatch experience.
• Princeton/Mercer County area knowledge preferred.
• Current New Jersey Emergency Basic Telecommunicator (BTC) certification.
• Current New Jersey Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification.
• Current CPR certification.

SALARY RANGE:         $ 55,000- $ 70,000
