The College of Computing was established in 1990 as the first such College at a public university and the second in the United States. Since that time, the college has grown into a world-class leader in research and education. The graduate CS program is currently ranked 6th and the undergraduate 5th nationally by U.S. News and World Report. The College consists of five Schools that provide specialized and general computing education to the entire campus. With over 16-degree programs, including its world-renowned online MS in CS, we believe the College to be the largest Computing unit in the United States and, as such, one of the largest producers of computationalist at all levels and of all demographic backgrounds. The College is a part of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a unit of the University System of Georgia and is primarily located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia.

Job Summary


Participate in communications efforts designed to market a campus unit's products and/or services to target audiences. This position develops communications materials in the form of graphics, brochures, fact sheets, articles for publication, logo designs and/or websites. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: unit management and personnel, customers and vendors. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities


Job Duty 1 -
Conduct and utilize market research as necessary to recommend appropriate marketing communications strategies
Job Duty 2 -
Develop content and oversee the design and production process for print collateral
Job Duty 3 -
Consult with academic and/or administrative personnel to acquire the necessary information about the subject
Job Duty 4 -
Confer with Institute Communications and Marketing to ensure that Institute graphic and style standards are followed in all material
Job Duty 5 -
Obtain cost estimates, collaborate in the selection of illustrators and printers and approve their work, as required
Job Duty 6 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities


Content Creation:

  • Research, write, edit, and project-manage a range of communications, including individual proposals, grant proposals and reports, case statements and concept papers, department profiles, donor profiles, talking points, and compelling stories about philanthropic impact.
  • Develop engaging content for newsletters, websites, and social media.
  • Assist in preparing presentations to articulate fundraising goals.

Events Promotion:

  • Assist in promoting fundraising, alumni engagement, corporate and other stakeholder events through various channels. Contribute to creating promotional materials and coordinating marketing efforts.

Digital Marketing:

  • Support online fundraising efforts, including email campaigns and crowdfunding. Monitor and report on digital marketing metrics for campaign assessment. Create electronic communications including website content and videos.

Donor Relations:

  • Conduct research and gather background information as needed to develop effective fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship communications.
  • Participate in donor acknowledgment and recognition; create impact reports that encourage and accelerate giving and honor our most important donors.
  • Craft communications to the Dean¿s Advisory Board across different channels.
  • Develop semi-annual reports for CAP (Corporate Affiliates Program) partners, design and update annual brochures, and produce other communications materials for CAP on a consistent basis.

Alumni Engagement:

  • Assist in creating an effective alumni communications strategy and assist in building region-specific communications and event promotions.
  • Assist in showcasing alumni success stories to inspire donors.
  • Develop ample and rich content across multiple channels to bolster engagement.

Collaboration with Team:

  • Work in regular collaboration with the development, corporate engagement, and alumni relations team to develop targeted communication strategies.
  • Participate in regular communications with the dean, faculty, students, and other internal stakeholders to understand communication goals, keep stakeholders updated, and ensure delivery.
  • Understand and help analyze trends and best practices in direct appeal creation and distribution, making salient recommendations to internal stakeholders to drive results.
  • Stay informed about institutional priorities, as well as news about faculty/students/alumni/programs, and use this information in developing persuasive messages and cases for support.
  • Collaborate with the Institute Communications and Development Communications teams, as well as the College of Computing Development team on proposals and other materials.
  • Work with team members to establish project timelines and workflows. Assist with keeping progress consistent with prescribed timelines.

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Two to four years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related and 3-5 years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability as a versatile, creative persuasive writer with excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading skills, including high standards regarding accuracy.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and of contemporary issues and methods of higher education institutional advancement and fundraising.
  • Proven success in creating direct appeals and writing for print and digital media, including both long- and short-form content.
  • Excellent research and project management skills.
  • Ability to synthesize large quantities of information and concepts and clearly convey value to potential donors/organize ideas and turn institutional objectives and messages into compelling cases for philanthropic support.
  • Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose
  • Firm understanding of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects under deadline pressures and with keen attention to detail.
  • Experience to deal in confidence with information about donors and prospects and to exercise good judgment.
  • Professional demeanor and comfort with diverse constituencies, including funding agencies, administrators, program staff, faculty members, and Development colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with academic and technical subjects and a demonstrated ability to translate these to a lay audience.
  • Knowledge across academic disciplines, and ability to persuasively express the mission of the College and institutional fundraising goals.

Pay Information:

Salary Range $46,704 - $58,000 (Based on experience)

FLSA status: Exempt

This job requires skills in writing and communication, creativity and ability to incorporate a variety of resources and tools to develop marketing materials. Requires ability to understand complex and/or highly technical ideas and programs and communicate them in lay terms.
