Hall County is the 10th largest County in the State of Georgia and dispatching for 6 law enforcement agencies and 2 fire departments.


Summary of Duties:

During training period, observes and participates in the operation and monitoring of radio dispatch and telephone systems utilizing multi-channels and frequencies in a public safety communications center; receives, logs and dispatches calls to appropriate personnel and secures proper information from persons in state of excitement or panic to assure adequate emergency response.

Under direct supervision, answers 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from citizens of Hall County; obtains vital information; refers callers to appropriate agencies and/or contacts agencies and obtains assistance for caller.

  • Maintains, updates, and files all pertinent logs, information cards, and other records and documents daily.
  • Assists trained Communications Officers in the transmission of orders and receiving of messages from a large number of law enforcement units, emergency response units, local and state agencies, wrecker services, FAA, utility companies, and others.
  • Is trained to recognize duplicate and related calls and screen calls from trouble areas, assists public over the telephone in order to obtain accurate information, maintains constant knowledge of all available units, chase procedures, and emergency alert and disaster procedures.
  • Observes and participates in dispatching emergency equipment, notifies ranking officers of calls, maintains radio contact with other public safety agencies.
  • Observes operation of GCIC/NCIC computer, receives information on stolen vehicles, articles and wanted and missing persons.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • US citizen, or repatriated or a naturalized citizen of the United States.
  • Criminal History and Driver's History check required for P.O.S.T Communications Officer Certification
  • Minimum score of 32 words per minute with 80% accuracy.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
  • Must be able to work all shifts including days, nights and weekends.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must obtain GCIC/NCIC Certification within the first thirty days of employment.
  • Must obtain EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) Certification within the first two (2) months from date of hire.
  • Must obtain CPR certification within the first two (2) months from date of hire.
  • Must obtain P.O.S.T. Basic Communications Officer Certification within the six (6) months of date of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of geography of Hall County and its municipalities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use a computer keyboard.
  • Ability to read a map.
  • Ability to speak with a clear well modulated voice.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions and clearly and effectively communicate orally during crisis situations.
  • Ability to type and use a computer keyboard.
  • Ability to retain and use signals, codes and clear text in the day-to-day operation of an emergency communications center.
  • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with the public, co-workers, management, and personnel from other agencies.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local agency officials, local and surrounding County Public Safety representatives, County departments, employees, media, and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may include some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Duties require the ability to operate a personal computer.

Sensory Requirements: Ability to concentrate, handle multiple calls and pay close attention to detail for up to 90% of the work day under stressful conditions. Ability to communicate orally. Ability to manipulate controls on multi-line telephone apparatus, computer, keyboards, and complex radio console.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Salary Commensurate with Experience.
