About the Job:
The Marketing & Communications Manager works under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer and is responsible for developing and executing the communications work plan and external marketing strategy to increase awareness of New Moms. This role will work collaboratively with the development and communications department taking lead on bringing new creative ideas to our organization’s communications and marketing strategy. The Marketing & Communications Manager will have excellent writing and copy-editing skills, have the ability to develop and manage projects to completion, and will be a strong collaborator across all teams. They will have fluency in social media strategy, email marketing and design platforms, and will be interested in building public relations skills. This position will work closely with the Chief Development Officer to build a public relations strategy. The Marketing & Communications Manager will be an enthusiastic ambassador of New Moms’ brand internally and externally. They will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. This position is located at our main office in the Austin neighborhood. Starting Salary: $60,000
Key Job Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communications:
- Manage the execution of tasks on the annual Communications Content Calendar
- Develop and implement a multi-faceted marketing strategy and corresponding assets
- Develop content, design, and implement a variety of strategic messaging initiatives including, but not limited to e-mails, newsletters, blogs, brochures, social media, website, video and other digital communications
- Develop content to support fundraising strategy including, but not limited to, targeted messaging to donor segments, donation receipt copy, and materials for special events
- Serve as production manager for all publications; Manage, write, edit and disseminate blogs, monthly e-newsletter, and ad hoc e-blasts
- Design and launch email marketing fundraising campaigns
- Manage New Moms’ social media assets, including campaign ideation and execution, posting content, responding to messages and notifications, updating organizational information, and monitoring analytics.
- Manage video and photography projects
- Develop and execute fresh story ideas, interact with staff and participants to solicit accounts of impact of New Moms for use in communications and development materials
- Create and maintain organization literature and other forms of communication (print collateral, website content, etc.), both print and electronic
- Assure content in alignment with brand guidelines and incorporates proper tone and style to ensure the engagement of multiple key target audiences (including but not limited to donors, participants, staff, agency partners)
- Seek opportunities to represent New Moms for public speaking
Public Relations:
- Develop and execute external marketing strategy for key media contacts
- Research media coverage and industry trends
- Research, develop, and manage media/influencer contact list
- Develop and manage media relationships and coordinate/manage press interviews
- Write press releases when needed, write and submit articles on behalf of the CEO
- Gather and prepare appropriate materials for external speaking engagements schedule for self or representing staff
- Work with publication vendors for timely ad submissions
General
- Work directly with the Chief Development Officer to identify and execute project needs and specifications
- Brief Chief Development Officer on design, copy, image, and content needs for promotional and fundraising literature and activities
- Act as a brand steward, upholding brand standards and consistency in all projects
- Conduct branding and communications training during new hire orientation, update training as needed
- Increase operational efficiency and help set up and improve workflow processes when and where needed
Administration and Other
- Exercise independent judgment in the resolution of administrative problems; Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with little or no supervision.
- Copyedit Development Department written materials
- Participate at each special event with duties as assigned
- Assist Event & Volunteer Coordinator with in-kind donation pickups as needed
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential
- Upholds the New Moms model, which is grounded in racial equity
- Regularly participates in agency and program staff meetings, as well as professional group seminars or conferences to enhance professional knowledge and job skills
- Supervises volunteers and/or interns, as determined by supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; degree in the areas of Communications, Marketing, English, or Journalism preferred
- More than three (3) years of related experience required; in the areas of communications, marketing, and social media preferred
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing, including excellent editing and proofreading skills
- Advanced computer skills including use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Design software skills (such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva)
- Email Marketing software fluency (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.)
- Beginner videography and video editing software skills; photography experience preferred
Other requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance
- Ability to occasionally work afternoons, evenings & weekends
Other Considerations:
- This is an on-site position with a primary office at our Austin location. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which could include up to 3 days per week of remote work if requested. All staff are required to be in the office on Tuesdays, which is our company Core Day.
