Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) is a nonprofit organization that provides equity-focused programming to improve educational outcomes for students in underinvested communities. From our Chicago Teacher Residency to LiberatEd Way Advisory Services, we support schools and districts nationwide through effective teaching, leadership, and school improvement practices. We seek a mission-driven, enthusiastic Marketing and Communications Manager to support our efforts to provide equity-focused programming to improve the educational outcomes for students in underinvested communities in Chicago and beyond. The Manager will help capture and share the incredible impact of AUSL's Chicago Teacher Residency and LiberatED Way Advisory Services programs. The ideal candidate will share AUSL’s passion for equity in education, have demonstrated experience in creating content that inspires action, and know about leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels in a dynamic and integrated environment.
The primary job functions will be:
1. Social Media
- Curate content for AUSL’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn social media accounts supporting the organization’s social media and content strategy.
- Support paid social media campaigns through social listening, copy creation, and partnership with AUSL program teams and thought leaders.
- Contribute creative ideasand topical perspective to the organization’s social media and content strategy.
2. Writing and Editing
- Write, edit, proofread, and support content development for blogs posts, newsletters, donor communications, website content, and any other material that supports AUSL’s communications and marketing efforts.
- Interview internal and external thought leaders and develop content into blog and social media posts that can support the organization’s SEO strategy.
4. Website Management
- Manage AUSL’s WordPress website, keeping the website up-to-date and responding to team requests as needed.
- Manage LiberatED Way’s Wix website, keeping the website up-to-date and responding to team requests as needed.
- Optimize content to strengthen the website’s SEO and track progress over time to suggest content strategy improvements.
3. Campaign Support
- Expand organizational reach and support program expansion by developing copy that advances the message of promoted social media campaigns and LinkedIn acquisition campaigns.
- Drive action by supporting creation of marketing campaign collateral like one pagers, brochures, white papers, toolkits, or other resources that will be used to recruit new Residents to the CTR program or new leaders to LiberatED Way.
- Support the organization’s marketing needs by responding to ad hoc marketing requests as guided by the Director of Marketing and Communications.
4. Email Marketing
- Curate and deploy the organization’s monthly newsletter by working with team members to assemble resources that tell the organization’s story and capture the impact of our work.
- Manage email lists and regularly audit lists to ensure audience optimization.
- Draft donor communications that ensure the continuity of campaign messaging and drive action toward conversion.
6. Reporting and Analytics
- Help ensure optimization of Marketing and Communications’ efforts by reporting on key KPIs across social media, marketing tools, and internal event reporting.
Successful Candidates will have:
- Have demonstrated excellence in writing and have phenomenal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and adept attention to detail.
- Show flexibility, curiosity, initiative, and enthusiasm for doing what is needed.
- Proficiency in using social media management platforms like Hootsuite.
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for AUSL’s mission, values, clients, team, and future.
- 2-4 years of marketing or communications experience telling impactful and inspiring stories.
- A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, any related field, or equivalent experience.
Other Desirable Attributes:
- Demonstrable commitment to equity and inclusion and/or amplifying the stories of underrepresented communities.
- Experience writing/executing social media plans and/or marketing plans.
- Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system or Donor Management platform like HubSpot, Salesforce, or Raiser’s Edge.
- Experience using an email marketing service like Mailchimp.
- Experience using a content management system (CMS) like WordPress.
- Google Analytics or Google Ads Certification.
