COMMUNICATIONS
The Communications Intern will gain insight and practical experience within the ever-evolving field of communications. The Intern will be regularly exposed to multiple aspects of communication through constant collaboration with our exhibits, development, retail, programming, and education departments under the direction and mentorship of the Communications & Impact Manager.
TASKS & DUTIES
- Drafting various media alerts and other written pieces of communication for both internal and external consumption
- Monitoring for daily and post-event media pick-up
- Compiling various media tracking reports
- Proofing and editing
- Staffing media check-in tables and events
- Attend meetings and collaboration discussions
- Sourcing talking points
- Being a media liaison/assisting with photo/video shoots
Possible projects
- Researching new media outlets (traditional, digital and social) for coverage opportunities in specific targeted demographics
- Identifying new and exciting ways to work with media outlets utilizing influencers and social extensions
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience working with media databases
- Familiarity with traditional and social media platforms
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Flexible and able to adjust to changing demands
- Attention to detail and good organizational & planning skills
- Must be proficient in computer skills including Office 365
- Available to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of times at various events
Preferred Experiences
- Some experience with communications, PR, or journalism
- Experience with MS Office, Meltwater, or Sprout
- Previous exposure to photo/video shoots
- Writing press releases
ELIGIBILITY
Intern applicants must be currently enrolled in a college (preferably entering senior year after summer 2024) or graduate school program. Preference to candidates who can intern with us through the end of Rock Hall Live (early September)
Details
- Rock Hall internships are paid positions and for enrichment purposes must be willing to work within other departments. This includes working scheduled shifts with the Fan Engagement and Museum Retail teams.
- The internship is onsite, starting May 29th and ending August 16th. Exact end dates could be flexible with some internships.
- Estimated weekly hours for this internship: 35 hours

Not only will all interns get an in depth, project-based learning and working experience, but all interns will also participate in an organization wide internship experience. Weekly career development sessions and panels with Rock Hall staff will ensure you are getting the most out of your time at the Rock Hall and completing the summer with new tools and resources when it comes to beginning your career. All intern positions will get a chance to work on the floor of the museum to learn firsthand how we create the world class guest experience for our visitors from around the globe. Lastly, all our interns will get to experience summer at the Rock Hall and Cleveland, getting to know the city that help build Rock & Roll, and all of the events and excitement we curate each summer.
