Job Title: Graphic Designer Department: Communications
Reports To: Content Manager Hours: 40 hrs/wk - Full Time

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for designing and producing graphic design projects, coordinating projects and managing and tracking the photography and videography for the Communications Department. This position works as a team member in support of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Graphic Design

  1. Design and produce graphic projects including advertisements, invitations, fliers, posters, bookmarks, postcards, rack cards, forms, reports and signage.
  2. Create, update and maintain website pages in coordination with rest of digital media team, with attention to usability, readability, accessibility, etc. These may include landing pages, directories, the home page and similar high-visibility/high-risk pages in addition to internal pages. Advise others on best practices for web design as needed.
  3. Design specialty publications including but not limited to economic development reports from Tribal Council to Membership, bound year-in-review booklets, "coffee-table" booklets for use with local non-Tribal government officials, Membership service directories, information booklets, and health and safety signage.
  4. Coordinate with outside agencies and vendors to negotiate print and graphic project deadlines, paper type, bindings, price estimates and execution to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  5. Design print edition of Puyallup Tribal News.
  6. Design digital newsletters as needed.
  7. Design graphics for use with Tribe's digital media channels. Create QR codes and other print/digital tools as needed.
  8. Prepare PowerPoint and similar presentations and visual aids, and provide audiovisual support for public meetings, presentations, etc.
  9. Design graphics slides for Tribal Administration's in-house video screens and manage the screens' content under direction of content manager.

Media Services
  1. Print fliers, posters, etc., in-house as needed, including large-format printing, and deliver to needed departments or arrange for pickup
  2. Back up other departments (such as Funerals and GIS) with large-format printing as needed
  3. Maintain and manage comprehensive digital photo/video libraries
  4. Respond to public relations and outside media requests for photos and video clips.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience
AA Degree in a related field and 1 year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully perform job duties, including ability to create graphics, print pages and signage that meet Tribe's standards, and ability to prepare printing specs for use with vendors. Must provide previous graphic design work samples. Experience creating design layouts.
Intermediate knowledge of word processing is required. Knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative software including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is preferred).
Must have experience in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Must be able to work long hours and carry an unpredictable schedule. Many graphics and printing requests will come with little notice.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to follow oral instructions and write news and feature stories using correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Licenses, Certificates
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance. Driver's License restrictions must not prevent the employee from complying with the Tribe's Vehicle Use Policy or driving a GSA vehicle.
Other Requirements
Must have reliable transportation.
This position must be able to work with all levels of personnel within the Organization and with clients and vendors. Some projects may involve multiple departments, entities and outside organizations (such as for communicating sponsorship news through Tribal channels) and will have multiple approval steps. Strong customer-service skills are required.
Skills in developing and articulating visual concepts.
Must demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Must demonstrate an eye for detail.
Must be able to multi-task and set priorities.
